Computer Hangs, Monitor's Display Became Multi-colored Distorted Garbage
Hi guys, good day to everyone, as usual I am going to share a computer problem based on my experience for this article.
This time it is about my co-employee whose computer is having display and hanging problem.
The Problem
This co-employee of mine is from my employer's sister company from another location. She called me couple of days ago telling me that whenever she turns on her computer the monitor stays black although the CPU is on.
Sometimes she can use the computer normally. But while she is doing her work the computer suddenly hangs, the display in the monitor became distorted and multi-colored garbage.
At that stage her computer is unusable, it completely hangs, it has to be turned-off by unplugging it from its power source or by a "press and hold" on the power button or restart it by pressing the "Reset" button once.
How I fixed the problem
At first glance the problem seems to be pointing on a bad graphics hardware. But I have to be sure, so I need the computer to work normally and look at the "Event Viewer" to pinpoint the culprit of the problem since her computer's graphics hardware is sharing its RAM from the RAM itself.
But when I am inspecting Event Viewer, I could not find any event that is related to the problem. The only way for me to resolved the issue is to study the dump file created by the computer.
Looking at the dump file I found out that a certain system file has caused the problem. A system file can cause a crash on a computer triggered by a faulty hardware, driver, software or memory.
With the information that I gathered I tried to update all the computer's device drivers. After updating the drivers, the error hasn't happened again so far.
