Steem Basic Income Giveaway (When your parents...)

in #contest6 years ago

Thanks to everyone who wrote in with their odd little mishearings... there were some truly amusing ones there!

Now, we've all had this experience before... when our parents, in their zeal to talk about their beloved children.... regale a particularly embarrassing episode from your childhood (mostly by accident... sometimes on purpose) to their friends or others whilst you are sitting there melting into your shoes hoping that the time will pass quickly... and trying to remember, that this is a person who took care of you when you were little, and that you should be grateful... but oh my god, you really want to jump up and scream!

On the other hand, sometimes there is a particularly cute or lovely story that you love hearing... one that shows you in a more positive light!

My Question

  1. What is something that your parents (or some other loved one) enjoys telling other people... that just really incredibly embarrasses you no end?

  2. What is a story that you really like hearing your parents tell, that is about you?

My sample answer

Unsplash

I honestly have no idea why... but my mother has this story that she tells from when I was really little... about how I would go into the garden and eat various things that I found in there... snails... dog poop... I'm not entirely sure why she thinks that will be an ice-breaker and something that will really go down well (well, actually... usually it goes down well with others, just a little less so with me!). I know when the story is about to come... and I think, NO NO NO!... but it is like holding back the sea, and all you can do is grit your teeth and smile... and remember that you owe everything in life to your dear parents!

However, there is another story that she also tells... about how when my family was building a house at the back of our old house... and about how, I would be helping my father move everything across from the old house to the new house, in a little toy trolley... books, and various little things that a small child could manage. There are even photos from the time... it is something that really makes me feel good about myself, and it is a cherished idea from a time long past.....

Steem Basic Income

One of the first communities that I came in contact with at the beginning of my time at Steemit was @steembasicincome. As a author starting out on your fresh new Steemit account, Steemit can be a daunting and lonely place to be. OFten, it can feel like you are posting into an abyss with no one listening and with no ability to grow out of the situation. A share of Steem Basic Income gives you a guaranteed vote on one post a day, thus giving you a small but over time cumulative support to your account to help grow you out of your initial wilderness!

With this post, I want to help sponsor people who might not even have the spare 1 STEEM that is required for registration. So, when this post pays out, I will sponsor people depending on the payout of this post. Basically, I will round up the SBD payout from this post and then that will be the number of people I will sponsor. (So, if the payout is 2.3 SBD, I will sponsor 3 people). OF course, this is not simply an altruistic move, as the sponsor of a Steem Basic Income share also gets a share, so it is a great way to help others whilst helping yourself!

Last week's winners

The last post paid out 0.726 SBD and 0 STEEM in liquid earnings. So, that would make 2 shares.

The winners by random draw are:

What I really hate and so embarrassed when my parents talked about me when they are talking to other people is how topsy turvy I am in our house. My mother always told them that during childhood, I am disorganized and doesn't help with the chores. Remembering this, I always feel ashame knowing that other people knew that I am quite organized at work and school. This became my challenge to myself eventually and somehow improve myself and made me better.

What I really like about what my mother always told about other people is when someone always asks her, if why did I not tried going abroad to work as a nurse since the pay is higher compared to working locally. She always responds that her son doesn't want to go abroad because no one will take care of her. If he can earn a decent pay locally, then there is no need for him to go to somewhere else outside the country and be far from her mother.

I always love my mother. My father has passed away already 10 years ago and she is the only one left and I want to treat her and give her the best that I can in return to all the things that she gave to me and made me who I am today.

Cheers!

how sweet! Your mom is proud of you not of how you've become intellectually but how you've become morally and emotionally compensated.

Thanks! I am sure she is.

How funny that your parents thought a different thing about your organisation at home compared to what you were like outside! But it is beautiful that your mother appreciates and recognises that you are around to help look after her!

  1. The one thing that my patents tell others which embarress me is they share too much about me, as of I'm doing something great.

  2. I like when they say, I have so much of understanding power...

Oh yes... I know that feeling.. when your parents tell a newly met person your entire life history... I get that they are proud, but.....

@bengy, I was not good in studies so whenever my parents were discussing about it then it felt embarrassing. 😁😁

And i was an athlete and passionate about running, so, definitely always wanted to hear from my parents about that aspect.

Have a fun time ahead. Stay blessed.

Haha... I think I was definitely the complete opposite! Physical exertion was completely impossible for me... but I loved learning!

Ha ha.... Fun to hear that and everyone enjoy different fields. Have a joyful time ahead.

  1. I guess the number one thing i really hated my parents telling others was that I was adopted, because it's embarrassing as a child! I just don't believe that THAT should be the first thing a person needs to know about me when they meet me for the first time... especially in high school.

  2. I like it when my parents talk about how I got to learn foreign languages and got to live in foreign countries like Japan and Korea. They're actually bragging about me to others, which I don't like to do, but it makes me feel proud that they feel proud of me.

Huh... that is a strange thing to be the first thing to tell others! Do you look very different to your parents?

... but it is great that they love to tell their friends about your travel experience and your ability with languages!

Well, I'm half Caucasian and half Navajo. My parents are pure European Caucasian. It's a bit obvious, but not too extreme.

The Good

Tied between two very short stories

  • The first time they took me to church, I fidgeted for about 10 minutes before whining at the top of my little voice...Mommy, this show is BORING!
  • We lived in Lalaland (Los Angeles)...during the big earthquake that convinced my folks to move out of Cali, my mom rushed in to check on me in my crib; as the crib bounced and rolled across the room, my mom was shocked that I was standing up in it and laughing as hard as I could

The Bad and the Ugly

As a wee tot, I got into the toilet bowl sanitizer..you know, the blue stuff. I then went on and painted my junk blue with it. My parents thought this was cute, so they took a pic of me with a s**t-eating grin and a blue dangle on the dingle. They then proceeded to show this pic and tell this story to every friend I made until I was at least 10. Then they wondered why I never brought any girlfriends over to the house to meet them ;>

Haha... both the good stories are absolutely hilarious! I can imagine the sheer embarrassment of your parents in the church! ... oh, and I can't believe your parents had the foresight to take a photo of your most (one of your most?) embarrassing moments! Definitely their priorities were in the right place! Possibly revenge for the earlier story!

My sides are hurting from laughing... you have a bonus SBI when the post pays out!

Glad to provide the laughs!

You know you're old when your embarrassing childhood moments become funny stories ;>

and thank you for the SBI!

I like to hear telling about the time me and my brothers and sister spend on things we did amusing ourselfs completely. The things like building camps and playing with the ball and digging in the garden.

Nothing too embarassing then?!?!?

Not really that i can remember.

Thank for the inspiring words, but I'm not totally sure that it answered the questions!
