First Post of 2019 - the Chickens are after me @c0ff33a

in #c0ff336 years ago (edited)

The celebrations are over, 2018 has passed and 2019 is now with us for another 364 days. However you celebrated the turn of the year I hope it was fun, safe and with good family or friends. I had a quiet evening watching a few movies, and then an early night because today again I would be driving to see relatives, this time my Aunt an hour North in York.

IMG_6843.jpg

It was a visit mostly dominated by Chickens, they have a good selection and at this time of year the stable food of bugs and insects is a bit thin on the ground - so they get fed and just associate any bi-ped nearby as the next feeder and sort of lunge at you!

IMG_6846.jpg

This makes them braver then your average chicken, in summer they run when you even look at them - now they stare you down!

IMG_6847.jpg

The Cockerill are more proud, and keep a safe distance.

IMG_6849.jpg

I found an interesting tree bearing fruit, it's a funny time of year for berries to be so abundant on a tree.

IMG_6851.jpg

I met some four legged friends as well, they were lively and eager to go for a walk.

IMG_6852.jpg

Or for sniffing out new things, walking or sniffing whichever would come first.

IMG_6853.jpg

The Chickens though were the star of New Years Day, full of character they were all eager to show off their talents in the hopeful return of some food.

IMG_6855.jpg

With an eye always on the prize, they would wait diligently or just crowd in forcing the point.

IMG_6856.jpg

Working in pairs helps, but the more the merrier.

IMG_6858.jpg

New Years day with the Chickens, and a few relatives as well - nothing better when the weather was mild and sunny, 2019 certainly started on a positive for me let us all hope it continues that way.

What an interesting time you had with those chickens. Cute little things. Thanks for sharing @c0ff33a

Thank you very much, we have roast chicken for dinner as well! None of these were harmed though - egg producers strictly.

wow, awesome photos as usual. Have a great year ahead.

Thank you very much, they move quick those chickens not an easy target to grab a photo of! Happy New Year to you as well, I hope your year treats you well too.

Thanks, Sir

Lmao some nutty little chickens man!

They certainly are lively characters, it made me laugh how they would dive towards me every time I went out in the yard to grab something from the car - I was starting to wonder if I left the car door open long enough they would decide to hop in!

Chicken that stare you down....
Scary... hahaha
Of course I was chased by one as a kid so I would stay far away from them

Dropped in to wish you a Sublime 2019 :D

Thank you very much, these are quite tame but are eager for food at this time of year - so assume anyone they see is bringing them something tasty! They have to be penned in once darkness falls because there are a few foxes in the area that are partial to nabbing any of them in the open.

The farm life....
It has been such a long time since I lived anywhere remotely close :)

Lovely chickens, they taste great with just free ranging @c0ff33a
I saw this farmer on youtube with a huge chicken coop and he lets them out on a field after the cows had eaten the grass so that they can eat the bugs from the cow poop and other things in the grazed field.

Then he just rotates the cows and the chickens like a good food cycle using up the land efficiently.

All natural happy chickens are always going to taste better, these are kept for eggs mainly and provide a good regular supply. It's quite funny because the nests of the chickens have golf balls in - apparently it helps encourage them to lay more eggs!

Sustainable farming has many benefits, and often is not any more costly because the improved product it creates can gain a higher price.

Ah that golf ball technique is awesome and brilliant LOL.
I remember when my brother was raising some pigeons, we kept taking eggs on one and it keeps on laying until we stopped and when it laid two it stopped laying and then it started to sit to brood the two eggs.

Hehehe - lovely post, as it's not often I see chicken portrayed as animals or creatures with 'character' - but these certainly looked proud and 'ready for 2019' :D

Have an amazing year @c0ff33a, I love the tag #teamhug :-) Cheers!

Than you very much, these chickens are certainly full of character - while I was drying up the dishes from our New Years Day meal (my Aunt cooks and we clean up when we visit) I was watching 4 different chickens jumping onto a giant pottery plant pot (It was 3 foot Wide and high - not so much a pot as a giant tub!) and pecking away at the trailing plant it housed - not sure if they were eating the leaves or finding little grubs.

Happy New Year, I hope 2019 treats you well. #teamhug is @saffisara tag, we enjoy being super nice and hugging as many posts as we can!

Yes hugs is the best thing to give 🤗🤗🤗
And I love our #teamhug
We are a great hug team @c0ff33a 😉👌

Nice to start the New Year off with the “Chicks’ giving you the eye. 😊. Seriously Rob, love seeing the chickens and beautiful rooster.
What a lot of berries left..winter food for the birds and squirrels. 🦅 🐿
Have a wonderful year ahead. 🤗 U&R

Thank you very much, and Happy New Year to you as well. Those chickens were just expecting me to feed them, they soon got bored when no food was forthcoming!

The tree was crammed with berries, quite strange I would love to find out more about it.

I hope 2019 is a good year for you as well.

Even the chickens don't want to relax they want you to increase your activity count hahah :D

Thank you very much, yes I think they were eager to chase me around the yard to improve my step count!

Happy New Year, I hope 2019 treats you well.

Great stuff you post. I've just started my 2019 with a reset to my Steem... lost around 80 Steems to gambling.. so back to zero - go figure.

Will refocus on what I should do on Steem. Been struggling for the entire 2018, and finally hit the 100SP mark. Was trying to hit to 210SP mark, but atlas... the end-result is being zero-ed out.

You have a good new year !

Thank you very much, I try my best to come up with something entertaining now again. Sorry to hear about your gambling loss, sadly that's the ups and downs of the game. I put more then I should into @steemmonsters - but it is quite fun and you never know if all the cards you collect will grow big in value in the future.

If you are active and out and about a lot the @actifit app is great way to share your daily step count, fill out a post (adding some value with pictures of where you have been always helps) and @actifit upvote your posts shared with the app which is a good bonus.

Happy New Year - I hope you have a good one.

New York chickens are a force to be reckoned with, no question about it. I was attacked by a mob of them a couple years back, and now I warn people about the chickens..

Yes, that is indeed odd about the berries. Not only that they are in abundance on this particular tree, but also look rather healthy. Very strange.

Nice post and imagery @c0ff33a

Thank you very much, these were actually quite tame and very amusing - they obviously just know people will feed them and are not too fussy who the person they see is - it's a person so must have food!

I would love to find out more about that tree and it's berries, I have not seen a single tree at this time of year with such an abundance - very strange but also interesting.

Happy New Year, and thanks for dropping by.
