It was the second pre-season match action for the blues, the first which ended in a not so positive manner, and another chance for the team to impress the new boss. Chelsea who are looking to get up to speed with the way Frank Lampard wants his team to play, locked horn against St Patrick’s Athletic at the Richmond Park for their second game of the pre-season, as the players look forward to showcase what they can offer to the manager and also give the manager what to think about, as they all prepare for the tough season ahead.

Chelsea are currently having a great pre-season so far, lots of intense and fun training sessions for the team. For them, it is all about match fitness and getting the squad to understand the new system and how the manager wants the team to play. So far so good, the team seems to be doing well in training and their game against St Patrick was a clear indication that the haven’t learnt from their mistakes in the first pre-season game and are gradually getting to understand the new system.

St Patrick Athletics are still in their active season, so for them, this game was more of to honor Chelsea’s pre-season rather than a pre-season for them. It was a great honour for them to play against Chelsea even though they were on the losing side, a good game overall as they get ready for their next fixture.

Brief Post-Match Analyses

It was yet again a very lively atmosphere at the Richmond Park, as fans were all buzzing with excitements.

Chelsea decided to setup in a much different formation this time and started the game with 4-42 diamond, while St Patrick setup in a 4-1-4-1 formation. The game began and we immediately saw a more improved Chelsea side in terms of gameplay and performance. Controlling the game right from the get-go and getting the deserved lead very early in the first half before going on to win the game comfortably.

Mason Mount who is part of the Chelsea loan army and was an integral part of Lampard’s Derby last season was introduced to the side in the first half as part of the 4 man diamond midfield, scored the first goal for Chelsea in the 14th minute, getting onto a through ball to tap in an easy finish.

A great game for Chelsea and a great way for Lampard to get his first win as the Chelsea manager, as they continue to prepare and get up to speed as quickly as possible.
