Introduction

Hello, welcome to another of my mobile app review. In this post, I'll be reviewing an app called Etar Calendar........ If you asked me about this app's name, I might mistake it for Et🌟r Calendar.
😄

What is Etar Calender?

source

Etar Calendar is a free and open-source calendar application that is made for everyone. Etar Calendar is basically used to create events and reminders. About seven days ago, Etar Calendar was updated to version 1.0.16. In this new version, bugs in the monthly view were fixed, dark theme on tablets were also fixed and there are new translations available. You can either download the latest version of Etar Calender from Google Play or from F-Droid.

How I got to know of Etar Calendar

I really love reviewing mobile applications so I was actually looking for an app to review. I found Etar Calendar on F-Droid and downloaded it. After installation, I didn't do much with the app until yesterday when I figured out that the app was worth reviewing; it really has good features.

Features of Etar Calendar

  • Free/no ads: Etar Calendar is free to anyone at anywhere; you do not have to pay to enjoy its features. Just a free download and installation would do. Etar Calendar has nothing like ads embedded in it. In this case, you and I don't have to worry about any sort of unnecessary pop-up. The only pop-up you may see is just a friendly event reminder which you must have set before then.
  • Create event: Creating an event is one of the main features of Etar Calendar. As a calendar application, Etar Calendar gives its users opportunity to create their events with a lot of great options involved. After I installed the app, creating an event was one of the first things I did. While creating the event, I saw an interesting option; 'Guests'. I did fill all the field that was required and my event was successfully created in a blink of my left eye😉.

  • View method: On this calendar app, users are allowed to choose any view method they prefer. There are four of them which are Day (daily view), Week (weekly view), Month (monthly view) and Agenda view. The agenda option lists out all the events no matter when their date is. After creating your events, I recommend you use the agenda view so you can know what your whole agenda for the day/week/month is like. When I got to know of this feature, I used all the different views and found out that the agenda view was quite better as it lists out all my events.

  • Modernized Layout: Etar Calendar has a good-looking layout. I really hate to see applications with a confusing/complicated layout; I love it simple and sweet. With this feature, Etar Calendar won my heart. After I created my first event, I could see it as it positioned at the right place and in a good looking way.

  • Go to: Have you ever tried going to any date/month/year you want on your calendar? Was it easy? With Etar Calendar, I can now go to any date/month/year I want to. This feature is really important because everyone gets bored swiping through months just to get to a different year. With this calendar app, all I have to do/always do is to click on the 'Go to' feature and select whatever date/month/year I want.

  • Search: The search feature is another interesting one. With the search feature, you can either search for events (you created/imported earlier) by either typing a related word or using a mic to say it. I really like this feature as it helps me find my events fast. To test this feature, I used it to search for an event which I had created. I was a bit surprised that even when I type in a word in the search box, all my events that has that word as part of its title was automatically listed to me. With this feature, I will save all my friends birthday so in case I forget their birthday, I can just type in their names to refresh my memory.

  • Import event: With Etar Calendar, you can import your events from another calendar. It actually sucks to start recreating events you created already just because you downloaded a new app. While Etar Calendar was developed, it was made to have this feature so as to take away that stress of manually adding old event. With this feature, you can import as many events as you want and can also edit them after importation. I tried out this feature by importing a 'Youth Assembly' event I had on a different calendar. Guess what........ It was successfully imported in few seconds.

  • Settings: Settings is really an important feature of an application because that's exactly where everything is controlled. On Etar Calendar's settings feature, you can do a lot of setups starting from how you want to view the calendar to how you want to receive your notifications and reminders. Basically, I'll like to point out the last option on the settings feature; I'm taking of the 'Quick response' option. This option allows you to edit quick responses which you can send to a guests email by clicking on the response. Looking closely at the screenshots below, you can see that I edited the response to my preferred response.

You can do it too.

How to get started with Etar Calendar

  • Download the latest version of Etar Calender either from Google Play or F-Droid, then install it.
  • Launch the application
  • Grant any required permission
  • Click on the '+' sign at the bottom of the screen and start creating your events.

Soooo easy.

Comparing Etar Calendar with Easy Calendar (a similar app)

  • Etar Calendar looks more modernized than Easy Calendar
  • On Etar Calendar, I can add guests to an event but I can't add guests to an event created on the Easy Calendar app
  • You can send quick response message on the Etar Calendar app but can't do that on the Easy Calendar app.

Conclusion

Etar Calendar is actually a good calendar application that has interesting features for all users.
