The Endless Trench - Quarantine got you bored? This guy spent 30 years hidden in a wall.

A few days ago, Netflix released this Spanish movie about the life of a man in Spain under Franco's rule. This guy belonged to radical groups that were against Franco and he was forced to hide in order to survive. What he didn't expect is that he will end up living hidden for 3 decades!

At the beginning of the movie, we see a regular couple sleeping when suddenly the wife hears noises and quickly wakes up her husband so he can hide. In a matter of seconds, some soldiers arrive looking for him.

These were difficult times for the Spanish people, on one hand there were the nationalists being led by Franco, and on the other hand there were the socialists wishing to follow the model of the Soviet Union. There was obviously a lot of cruelty from both sides and an unimaginable number of people lived in constant fear.

Apparently, the main character of this story burned some Churchs in the Spanish civil war, this among other crimes was the reason why he was being hunted. In short words, he was a churchburner and probably a murderer of Catholic people as well.

I am surprised this character didn't go full-blown crazy living in extreme isolation for 3 decades, maybe the movie wasn't that accurate regarding this unavoidable psychological deterioration that people will suffer when enduring these conditions. Suicide attempts/thoughts would be another possible scenario that wasn't included. By the way, he did have his wife living with him, but this doesn't seem like enough social interaction, especially because there weren't old when this started.

The movie doesn't inflict too much intensity in the viewers, despite the huge stress this character went through in several scenes, I didn't feel excited, nervous or anything of the kind. This is only a drama story, it is not an action nor a thriller flick.

I would recommend this movie for those wanting to watch a slow story about the consequences of war, in this particular case, the Spanish civil war. This film shows how it affects a family in a very intimate way and how their dynamics change as the years go on.

The best

• Good portray of the difficult lives some people had in that troubled Spain.
• It also shows how this bizarre situation can strain family ties and treatment.

The worst

• At around 2:30 the movie was too long, it could have been shortened a little bit.
• It should have explored the psychological deteriorations in a much deeper way.
