Good morning, dear friends

Today I will write about those musicians who have a natural talent, but who do not have a bit of discipline and the opposite of those who are quite disciplined but do not have that ability to learn easily.

What is talent?

Special intellectual ability or ability that a person has to learn things easily or to develop an activity with great skill.

What is discipline?

It is the coordination of attitudes, with which you are instructed to develop skills faster, or to follow a certain code of conduct or "order".

Who will be able to reach further, the disciplined or the talented?

Well, although I started the article with an example of two types of musicians, this topic covers any area of our life, for the answer to this incognita. I would like to quote a Japanese phrase that is very used by Yokoi Kenji Diaz "The discipline late or early will overcome intelligence".

Many of us Latinos see the Japanese as "brains", we label them as the most intelligent or talented in all the things they are dedicated to. Certainly the Japanese are very successful, but what is the difference with us Latinos? Are Latinos not smart? Do not we have any talent? Here we have plenty of talent, we have to splurge, but the discipline is quite scarce, we are very informal and we take everything lightly, we make a joke of our life making a circus.

In my days in martial bands, I got to know many aspirants and always had in charge of several of them, you can notice that many came with what we call natural talent, just by grabbing a musical instrument they are able to do things that they normally take more than a month in learning, he was admired and I apostatized him to the greatness of those talented apprentices. However, for the most part, I'm wrong, the lack of discipline damages all their great talent, what they manage to do with their hands destroy it with their feet.

On the other hand those who strive to learn, had perseverance and discipline, many are good musicians, about two weeks ago, in a presentation I met a friend, who had the honor of teaching him to crawl on the trumpet, that is, teach him the basics. At the beginning he was quite ill, so much so that I came to think that he had chosen the wrong instrument, I must confess that when he heard the sound he gave to his trumpet he was stunned and also read scores at first sight the student surpassed his teacher.

As for those who had talent, I have not had the opportunity to meet any of them, but I am sure that most of them left the instrument, they did not follow, so what is the use of being talented and not having discipline? I'm sure that talent does not help you to have discipline, but discipline helps you to have talent.

Dear reader, with this I do not mean that talent is bad, but if you have it and you are not disciplined, you will be wasting it. We are all intelligent, talented, we just need discipline to succeed, I think that all extremes are bad. You do not have to be like the Japanese who look like bots, I daresay that with 40% of discipline in our lives added to the incredible talent we will have, we will be successful in all areas of our lives.

Until next time!
