December 5, 2024, has been one of the most spectacular days for me because I witnessed how steem touched the lives of people in the city of Uyo, Nigeria. This was a day for the launch event of the Steem Lighting Africa solar project at Uyo High School, which was tremendous. I saw the invitation and decided to attend. Let me brief you about the event.

We arrived at the venue at 10 Am, and the principal of the school needed to know about the project and sponsor, I was privileged to be among those who went with Mr. Ubongudofot to his office. Ubongudofot explained to the principal that the Steem Lighting Africa Solar project is a project sponsored by Steem, a digital currency, and that the currency is earned on an article-writing platform known as steemit; that various people on the platform had been contributing for the past six months to install solar light in the school as charity. The principal was thrilled and instructed the students should be assembled for the launching.

The students were assembled, and the vice principals of the school addressed them and informed them about the installation of the solar light in their school. The students were super excited to know, they would have twenty-four hours of power supply in their computer Laboratory, and that they would no longer miss their computer practicals because of the lack of electricity in school; the students leaped in Joy, and I could see the Joy in their faces, and I was touched by their reaction.

The principal of the school introduced the representative of the sponsor of the charity service, Mr Ubongudofot who spoke passionately to students and informed them that the solar light installation was for them as charity from steem, and the gift was to provide them with an enabling environment for learning, so they wouldn't miss out on their practicals because of lack of electricity. The students, out of Joy and happiness, promised never to spoil the solar system but to always cherish that special gift; this was so touching to me.

At this juncture, it was time for the commissioning of the solar system at Uyo High School. The principal took the due protocols and commissioned the project in the presence of the students and Steemians who were present. We took pictures with them, and they we so excited. Afterward, we moved into the computer laboratory to see how it was powered by the solar system. Ubongudofot showed the ICT teacher how to switch on and off the system, and how to use it properly. The vice principal gave us bottles of water and a bottle of wine, this was so kind of him. We left the school for a bar we refreshed ourselves.
