Wednesday walk: my trip to the National Museum.
Taking a day off, I decided to visit our National Museum in the old part of Bangkok. The quickest way to get there was by bus.
Parking space was hard to find, so taking this bus was convenient and economical. This ‘hot’ bus was renown for its fast and furious driving style so passengers had to hold tight! It was so fast that I could hardly take a proper photo of this bus before it shot off to the next stop.
I was so glad to arrive safely at the National Museum. I haven’t been there since school days. So I had to find my direction. The second oldest university in Thailand could be found right next to the museum.
The other side of the main gate to the museum.
The day was bright and hot so it’s a good idea to get inside one of the exhibitions as soon as possible. But so many different buildings, I had to decide where to start after some looking around.
Aha! So this was my start of the tour! The nine rock crystal Buddha images have been gathered together into one exhibition for one month only.
I had to take off my shoes before entering the building, the atmosphere was very quiet and calm as if time had stopped! Those white guardians were making sure we took off our shoes.
Those rock crystal Buddha images were looking so small and very old, each came from different parts of Thailand, Laos and Burma. I hope you could see them, colourful crystal Buddha images about six inch high, sitting on wooden bases.
I was very glad I visited this museum once in a blue moon. I spent so much time inside that I missed my lunch by two hours. The staff at the museum was very kind and told me where I could find the nearest restaurant. I would definitely go back to your this old and famously haunted museum again!
Hope you’ll visit the National Museum in Bangkok when you have the chance to visit Thailand.
Cheers.
