My Favorite Drink/s

in #ccc6 years ago

Hello all,

This post is is response to a weekly contest done by @marblely, for the #ccc community and anyone else who wants to join. Here you can find details about the contest, if you'd like to enter yourself : https://steemit.com/ccc/@marblely/my-thursday-favourites-9-contest-a-chance-to-win-2-sbi-shares-and-everyone-wins-a-share-of-this-post-s-liquid-payout

I'd have to say that there are 4 drinks that are my favorites, and only 1 that I still drink regularly. I'll list them in order of preference and frequency of consumption, because that seems a logical ordering to me.

Drinks

  1. Water
Since I was a child, I've always enjoyed water as my primary drink. When all my friends would request soda's or juice, I would go to the fridge and pour myself some water from our pitcher. For a very long time, I would only drink cold water with ice, but as I've aged I outgrew that. Luckily, it seems, because I learned a few years ago that drinking extremely cold water can be bad for your digestion. This is a fairly contested point, but I err on the side of caution. That is also why I exclusively drink water that has been filtered. I do not trust tap water at all, and hope to someday have the ability to get my water from rain, spring, or well water and then filter it with reverse osmosis. Maybe some of you will feel this is overkill, but the amount of pollutants, endocrine disruptors, pesticides, etc, etc, that are in our water system horrifies me and I will do all I can to protect myself from them.

  2. Greens Smoothie
For many years, I had a daily greens smoothie. It became a staple of my diet, and was how I consumed a large portion of my calories, because I was (and still am) a mostly raw vegan. I would throw in tons of food to my blender: nuts, seeds, like 5 or 6 different kinds of dark leafy greens, frozen berries, various spices (cinnamon and clove being my favorites), and my 2 kinds of greens powders. None of my family or friends thought it tasted good, but that was not a bad thing for me, as it meant I never had to share. Unfortunately, for a few months prior to leaving the country I grew up in, my blender broke. I did not have the funds to buy a new one, so I had to stop making them. This was a pretty drastic shift for me, but I got used to it over time. That transitional period helped out for living abroad, as I still don't have access to a blender. I do miss my daily shakes though. Someday soon, when I have a job again, I will resume making these.

  3. Apple juice
Ahh, apple juice. One of the very few fruit juices that I enjoyed as a child. Grape and orange were always gross, which is odd because I love both of those fruit. But getting chilled apple juice, or slushy apple cider, was one of the big treats I can recall as a child. Now, being immensely more health conscious than I was when I was young, I tend to avoid fruit juices as a rule. But there will be times that I have some cold-pressed organic apple juice. And it's still just as good as I remember it being. Why do the good things always have to be bad? C'est la vie.

  4. Virgin Pina Colada
This one I threw on because I have recently brought this up with my girlfriend, and it reminded me of how much I enjoyed it as a child. This mixed drink used to be something I would get every chance I could. I recall many times going to Olive Garden, a franchised Italian food restaurant in the United States, and asking my parents to order this for me. Usually they would humor me, and I would get my fruity treat. I have not had the normal version of this in near a decade, though I have had a cold-pressed fruit version. Maybe someday, when I have my blender again, I will have to get some fresh coconut and pineapple and make an actual fruit smoothie version of it.

Wow. This brought up a lot more nostalgia than I had anticipated. I apologize if this is perhaps a little more sad than what the goal of the contest was looking for, but I just wrote what came to mind.

Thank you, it is much appreciated :) I was recently delegated 35 SP, so the RC restrictions aren't as much of a hindrance for me anymore.

Oh wow... you do like healthy drinks :) I myself am a fan of warm water, preferably filtered, though not always we have the luxury of a water filter. The green smoothie sounds really interesting too.

I've never mastered the art of liking warm water. Room temperature is about the warmest I can handle before it starts tasting gross. Unless it's really warm for tea haha.

It is in my opinion, but the coloring puts some people off haha.
