THE ORIGIN AND FALL OF EVIL SPIRITS. Part 2. (THE GREAT FALL)

Before his fall, Satan was one of the archangels; presumably a choral leader (Ezekiel 28:13). Now concerning his fall, the book of Isaiah chapter 14 brought to light the fall of Satan,

How art thou fallen from Heaven O Lucifer son of the morning. How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nation! For thou said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars (angels) of God. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most high. Yet thou shall be brought down to hell, to the side of the pit…” Isaiah 14:12-17.

Here, we see him called Lucifer, son of the morning; his ambition was to unseat God from His throne and take over ownership, because he was not satisfied with his subordinate position. Finally, he was defeated in a battle and was cast down here on earth. Jesus confirmed his fall by saying,

“Yes, I saw Satan falling from heaven as a flash of lightning” Luke 10:18;

John the Apostle recorded the episode leading to his fall thus:

“And there was a war in heaven, Michael and his Angels fought against the dragon and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not, neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent called the devil and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world. He was cast out into the earth and his angels were cast out with him” Rev. 12:7-12.

However, God did not cast Lucifer down because He is tired of him in heaven, or for him to take over the ruler ship of the earth from Adam so that men would worship him as some do today. Rather, God cast him down that man should laugh at him and learn from his mistake of not being satisfied with where God placed him.

About the fall of other evil spirits, the Bible recorded that it took place the same time Lucifer was cast down from heaven, for he succeeded in luring some angels into joining rank with him to rebel against God.

And it was stated in the book of Rev. 12:4, 9,12; that the dragon swept away a third part of the angels in heaven whom he deceived into rebellion against God. These fallen angels are called demons or evil spirits and Satan is their leader.

The question of how Satan could deceive those angels was not answered in the Bible; perhaps the story of Absalom, David’s son who stole the hearts of the children of Israel that came to David for counseling would rather help us understand how Satan succeeded in deceiving other angels.

”And Absalom rose up early and stood beside the way of the gate and it was so, that any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him and said, of what city art thou? And he said, thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.

And Absalom said unto him, see, thy matters are good and right; but there is no man deputed of the king to help thee.

Absalom said, moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man which hath any suit or course might come unto me and I would do him justice. And it was so, that when any man came nigh to him to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand and took him and kissed him. And on this manner did Absalom to all Israel that come to the king for judgment: so Absalom stole the hearts of all the men of Israel”. (2 Sam 15:3-6).
