Visiting the Chestnut Mountain Shooting Range

After @ryulincoln and I did some hiking on the Pinhoti Trail, we passed by a shooting range in the middle of nowhere. It was only a mile or so from the trailhead which was in the North West Tip of Georgia.

We arrived at a dirt parking area, looking alot like a hiking trailhead.

rw-153308.jpeg

Paid the needed fees for each of us, ten dollars each. Ive paid alot more and had to deal with range officers breathing down my neck. So pretty happy with paying this and being just me and @ryulincoln.

rw-153812.jpeg

As we approached the range, the guidelines billboard was all shot up. With dozens of holes punched in it by bullets.

rw-153822.jpeg

This place is quite secluded so I can see how people got away with it, though sucks as its harder to read the rules now.

rw-153752.jpg

Further damage can be seen to the roof of the overhang. People have shot through the roof for fun im guessing.

rw-153836.jpg

See that light coming through, those are bullet, slug and buckshot holes.

rw-153853.jpeg

I really liked the signage, looks like someone used a wood router to carve out the letters and then painted them.

rw-153550.jpeg

Shell casing were everywhere, this bothered @ryulincoln more than me. As he has slipped and fell before on such strewn about shells.

rw-153554.jpeg

This place would make for a good @cleanplanet post cleaning up these shells and surrounding trash

rw-153927.jpeg

Even worse than the roof and sign damage, was the structural damage caused by people shooting at the support beams.. Not good.

rw-153941.jpeg

Seems people got bored of shooting targets and turned their guns on the shooting range.. Never seen anything like it.

rw-161502.jpeg

"I love Aero 4-Ever" Im guessing is a reference to ammo or a gun reference.

rw-154111.jpg

Even the brass trash container was shot up.. nothing was spared.

rw-154703.jpeg

Enough talking about the shot up range and lets talk about the guns we brought. A Chinese AK-47, all blacked without any wood.

rw-154659.jpg

The AK shoots 7.62x39 ammo, we were using Rifle Line Full Metal Jacketed 120 grain ammo.

rw-154654.jpg

Loading up the magazines, holds 30 rounds. I have been relishing the use of these since they were illegal in California.

rw-161110.jpg

Well the Chinese AK had issues after shooting a few dozen rounds. The back plate popped off during shooting.

rw-161954.jpeg

Eventually it kept falling off and then his reflex scope broke from impact.. damnit!

rw-154650.jpg

With that setback, we took a break and ate some food I brought for us.

rw-154641.jpg

I love picnics with guns, just make sure to clean your hands off before handling each. Unless you like greasy guns, and gun powder flavored food.

rw-161825.jpeg

@ryulincoln shooting his Mossberg 30-06, this is a large game hunting rifle. Has as much kick as a 12 Gauge shotgun. I liked shooting the AK more before it broke on us.

rw-162242.jpg

Set up my Actioncam for some video lapse before we left.

rw-064851.jpg

Lastly a picture of my shoulder the next day, had some bruising from shooting the 30-06. That gun is quite powerful.. well both of them are honestly. Its alot of fun practicing on our grouping and we found a few spot to visit with our guns.

really made my day. :)

Also, just curious, did you gather everything for cleanplanet post or that is just notation, you are there to shoo? :)

Have a great sunday!
Awesome post. :)

@svemirac nice, glad you liked it. I dont do too many gun posts so good to see it's well received. Shooting guns does work up an appetite.

It was just a notion to the project, but next time I go I plan on bringing bags and collecting some shells to dump into the spent brass container. I was just there to shoot, never been there before so had no idea it was going to be that full of trash.
