The Best Of Two Worlds: Beer Aged In Bourbon Barrels.

Beer

Mmm, that's right, beer. Go ahead and grab yourself one right now, I'll wait.

Awesome, now we can get started.

I like beer. Micro, macro, craft or home brew, there is good and bad in any of these categories. Now I'm not a connoisseur by any means but I am a dork, a beer dork that is, and I do enjoy geeking out on local craft brew or limited edition brews or even throwback cans, like I am enjoying at the moment.

Pilner Urquell from the Czech Republic is currently selling a 4 pack of 16oz cans, all with old labels from their 175 year history, and I picked one up just for that reason. #dorkmove
Enough about me though, what I want to talk about today are some pretty special brews from Full Sail Brewery in Hood River, Oregon. I'd talk more about the brewery here but, unfortunately, they sold out to a private equity firm in 2015. And, honestly, I don't fault them for doing so. I don't blame any of these local craft breweries who sellout actually. Don't get me wrong, I hate the big multinational corporations that buy these little guys, fuck the employees and move the brewing to one of their mega shit-breweries. But, as a former small business owner, I find it hard to blame the the people who started a business, worked their asses off to make a name, and then sell their place so they can live the good life. I know it's not that simple but I still don't blame them.

Shit, I'm talking about myself again, and giving my opinion on something you probably don't even care about. Sorry. Let's get back to the beer.

The beer in question today is from Full Sail as I've said and it s the yearly release of a bourbon barrel aged brew. It is typically a stout or a porter and I am going to show three here today.

First, a 2013 Imperial stout.

Aged for one year in used bourbon barrels.

Next up, a 2011 Imperial stout, Black Gold.

image

Again, one year in bourbon barrels.

And the final brew today, a 2010 Imperial porter, Top Sail.

image

Brewed in 2009 and aged in used bourbon barrels for a full year.

How about a shot of the whole family?

Well, I don't know about you but I'm getting mighty thirsty. Which one should I open first?

Sort:

“I am a dork, a beer dork that is.”

Thanks for the clarification. 😉 🍺 🍻

Every day a new topic with you. I like the variety. Enjoy the beverages.

Yes, I thought a clarification was in order there, especially for those folks unclear about the clarity of things.
Yeah, adding the "spice of life". Glad you like it @dfinney

@rewards-pool where a small delegation can get you a big splash.

I wish I had someone offer to buy me out of my business. I’m getting too old for this shit. Great beers man. Wish they were available by me. I’d love to try them.

Yeah, I know a bit about the small business world. It's a fucking grind. Hang in there @silverd510. In fact, if I can just win a feeeeeew more raffles, I might be ready to make you an offer. :)
Bourbon barrel aged beers are around from different producers, I'm sure you could find some in your area.

I would open black gold first!

these all sound really good. I just had a red wine last week that was aged 30 days in an oak barrel that was pretty good... can't remember the name right now.

Sounds good @cyber.explorer. I was thinking black gold last but just can't decide.

It is a hard choice between the Stouts or the Porter.

Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold

Missed you. Welcome.

Thanks, I'll look for some next time shopping. I hope my local "superstore" has some.
