Dust and Shadows 2.4 Frosty Jack
A handful of users died from not responding in time. I don't get to start until I know everyone has responded so it's fair.
Don't freeze! We have discovered an assassin that is tracking the players and he is very good at what he does. Calling him Frosty Jack.
Late response is death now!
The results
@apolymask you pocket that bar of gold. You walk down to town. As you walk you hear the familiar rattle of a snake. Roll 5. He decides to attack. He coils up tail flickering. Roll 10 he strikes narrowly missing you. Roll 12. You stumble as a blur flies by your face. The eagle is thrashing the snake clawing at its head. The snake is so stunned it can't defend itself. The eagle tears off a chunk pinning the snake down with large talons. You rise to your feet eyeing the bird. It glances at you blood of the snake dripping off its beak. Did it save you, or use you as bait? You side step the bird as you walk to town. A while later a shadow floats across the ground the eagle is flying overhead. Seems like you just gained a friend.
You look to the town. You see a small coral of horses no one appears to be around.
Do you;
- Approach the coral to steal one
or - Lurk around and try to see who owns them
You lean against the rock and try to count the shots he did. Three you mumble to yourself. He seems too wounded and dazed to reload. At most he has three shots left. You swear wishing you didn't lose your pistol over a card game. Roll 3. You try to speak to him but get only cold silence, you aren't convincing enough. The sound of him checking the bullets in his chamber echoes. Roll 13. You reach around and find a small emblem. You squint at it, its the logo for one of the local banking families. You call out you know who robbed him. And you are a deputy of the law, let you help him. He thinks it over and his voice weak. "You better know your stuff." You crawl quietly to him as he sets his gun down, blood courses down his body as he grunts.
Do you
- Save him
- Interrogate him for why he's so protective
You gently shake him as his eyes squint at you. You explain that you need to know what happened here. He swallows softly, every movement is painful. "Ask them." He points up. You follow his direction and see a group of men on horseback watching you from atop the canyon. Even at that distance you can see a hint of a white hat. Brooks you swear. Roll 13. They turn in solidarity and leave you and the driver of the gold carriage. The man you rescued muses. "You seem like you want to kill them worse than I do."
You give a soft nod.
He grunts and sits up. Feeling his wound that is closed up.
Do you
1)Get him to the safety of the town.
2)Pursue Brooks
As you study the cart you fail to realize you are not alone. The shots that fire end you before you bury your face in the hot sand.
Hours later you wake up gasping. The totem pole staring down at you.
You lean back feeling exasperated. Now what you mutter to yourself.
Do you
- Explore the area
- Search for an town to gather/rob supplies
You try to appeal to his humanity and your wounded condition. Roll 20. You calmly and expertly talk him down as he apologizes. He lets you heal him.
As you two speak you can see a figure watching from the mouth of the canyon. A warrior painted in the colors of war. He stands upon a horse covered in large clawed marks ceremonial markings perhaps? You realize he is blocking the way you came in.
Do you
- Confront him
- Fall further back into the canyon and see if you can find another way out
As you heal him you feel an eerie presence. Roll 20. A painted warrior dives at you. You duck and flip him onto his back. The force causes him to be knocked unconscious. Both you and the man stare at the man decked head to toe in war paint.
"Friend of yours?"
You pick up a small dagger made from the bone (tooth?) of some large animal.
You twirl it in the sunlight, that would not have felt good going into your back.
Do you
- Kill the warrior
- Tie him up as you two interrogate him
As you climb down the side of the rocks you feel a presence. Roll 12. You pause long enough that you can hear the strained breathing of a horse. You lower yourself to the ground as the rider dismounts, he is trying to track you down. Where did he come from?
You pat your pockets for anything to defend yourself with. Roll 17. You notice a flat rock, its cold to the touch from the night time air. You skip it across the groud as the warrior turns scanning for the multiple pops. You charge and knock him to the ground. Stunned you get to the point where you have your shin on his throat. You both pause and try to adapt.
Do you
1)Press down much further with your weight
2)Get off and show mercy
Your intense focus pays off, the wound is nearly healed. Roll 7. You get tackled to the ground, knocking the wind out of you. The hell was that?
Your attacker and you roll with the impact. Roll 6. An object pierces your outstretched hand as you howl in pain shoving the attacker off. Roll 16. A swift kick into his nose stuns him. He wobbles as the man you healed pins him down. He gives you a look as you cletch your bleeding palm.
Do you
- Kill him
- Interrogate him
As you concentrate on the wound you fail to notice the knife aimed at your neck.
You gasp. Your throat is incredibly dry. You glance around for a moment its too dark to see
Do you
- Sleep till morning
- Investigate and look for water
Welcome to the game!
You awaken beneath a giant totem pole. You brush sand off of you as you crawl out of your shallow grave.
In the distance you hear a horse neighing, but does it have a rider?
Do you
- Walk toward the sound of the horse
- Search the area

Wooo! I have an eagle friend. :) Thanks eagle friend!
I will take option 2 as I try to do the moral thing and not steal unless I absolutely need to. So.. I'll Lurk around and try to see who owns them.
Bold move. Lets see what happens.
#2 for me....
Gotta make sure of EVERYTHING before engaging!!!!!! Hehehhee
Smart ;P
I glance down at my hand, the one that somehow or another healed the man by the stagecoach, I reach with my other hand and remove the knife and see the wound seal closed as it is removed. What is this, how has this happened I think to myself, what did they do to me when they threw me out of my death back into this life.
I look over at the two complete strangers. Who is friend, who is enemy? are either of them enemies or did they just react to the situation. A stranger approaching while wounded, would I also not think the worst of that situation?
Watching a man approach a wounded man, would I not think the same thing. I needed answers, best to start with question to the second one first?or to the first one?
I choose number 2. Interrogate him.

@swolesome, I'm sooooo sooooory that I have been absent from this game for so long. As you can see, I have been busy getting my trusty mount, Tee, ready for some Dust and Shadows action.
Hmmmmm, based on previous experiences I have a feeling that looking for a drink of water is going to be a huge waste of time because I'm on my way out, so to speak. I'm going to give in to the strong urge to sleep it off.
Cheers!
I turn to the driver. "You seem to know something about those folks. Let me get you to town and you can tell me a bit more about what I'm dealing with here."
weeee! well, i've gotten this far, imma try to save him. #1 :)
