[CR] Mushroom gal

A good afternoon to you all! I’m currently sipping on hot pomegranate green tea at @caffetto, enjoying my alone time and motivated to create loads of new art! I drew up this mushroom spirit gal the other day but was too tired to share it. I was actually trying to sketch up another whimsical creature but I got tired of looking up perspective images. I want to keep an air of mystery to that idea so I won’t say much about it. The only hints I’ll leave is that it’s a fantasy like creature, something I imaged a long time ago but did not have enough skill to draw up until now. Any who, I needed a break from that idea so I moved on and began sketching this interesting looking sprite.

This image started off with an expression, just like so many of my other drawings. I switched between a P4, 6B and Technical Pencil to get the desired look.

I was feeling inspired by @scrawly’s Lady snail at a party. I pondered over fun things I could incorporate into this image to make it look whimsical. That’s when I began to experiment with clusters of mushrooms, starting with the brows.

I found an circular shaped fungi for the cheeks and miraculously turned the nose into a mushroom as well. I swear the cheeks will look awesome once they’re colored in!

Our Fungus gal wouldn’t be complete without having hair in a mushroom silhouette. Once she’s colored, I may incorporate a few more spores growing out of her head.

The ear was tricky. I attempted to draw a single mushroom but it looked off. Then I took the same idea I had with the brows and began to form a cluster of mushrooms into the shape of an ear.

Next, I drew in lashes which were inspired by a type of mold. Sounds nasty but looks cool.

As an extra bonus I sketched another bundle of fungi with a little snail perched on top.

I added color to the background so the thumbnail image would pop but I do plan on coloring this image in today. I’m going to use my usual pastels but highlight in rich vibrant colors. Wish me luck!
