Anna was a young girl of 12 years old, but unlikely the girls in her age she was quiet and did not speak much. She lived in a very dark room together with her mother, it was cold and often wet, there were no windows here and it was difficult to know if it is day or night. Actually she never has seen daylight and could not imagine that there is life beyond this little place.
- Enemy...
Many years ago Anna’s mother was kidnapped by a stranger who slowly after 15 years became some kind of a part of her “family”. After so many years, Anna’s mother got used to him and he too. It seemed that he stayed often longer in that room, which probably was a basement that was then made as a room with two beds, table and toilet with water tap. For the stranger it was a good place to keep Anna’s mother, because the walls of the house were strong and also he specially installed heavy door that was properly isolated and did not allow any noise to get through to house above it.
- Anna...
Anna’s mother was allowed to have TV, mirror and also some clothes, that he bought for her and few years later he started to talk to her more and gave her compliments. That slowly made Anna’s mother attached to this only person and one day it was so far and they lived as a couple, that is why when she got pregnant the stranger was okay with that.
Anna was born in basement, luckily the birth went without complication. Now Anna’s mother had someone who she needed to look after and who she could give her love. She grow her up and taught her everything she knew herself.
Slowly Anna started to ask why they are in this room and wanted to go out, often he was crying and was naughty. That was the moment when stranger had enough because he wanted only one hostage and everything was good before Anna, but now when he wanted to punish Anna then her mother protected her. One day when Anna was 6 years old, he came to their room and had a big metal cage, he took Anna’s hand and throw her into cage and locked it. Since then that was her place to go if stranger was annoyed with anything. This way the years go by and she reached her 12 years.
- Alone...
It was another day when Anna was in cage and was thinking why she was so bad that she deserved this cage. It was already 3 days that she was there, stranger and her mother went away and she was locked. On the third day she started to be worried, she was all alone, cold and hungry and did not know what to do. She did not have any power and just constantly falll asleep.
- Freedom...
She woke up from some noise at the door and thought that now her mother and a stranger are back, but it was not normal opening of a door but very noisy and then door flew open and something very bright shown in room that blinded her. She closed her ears with hands and shut her eyed closed, she even stopped breathing, she prayed: "Please, go away and leave me alone".
The next moment she heard someone’s voice, it was a woman with very gentle voice, she opened her eyes and saw this beautiful woman who was smiling to her. The door of a cage was open and woman offered her hand to Anna, she only said: “Come sweetheart, you are free”
The next moment her heart started to race and she grabbed that hand and was very glad to be in this woman’s arms, she hidden her head in her coat and they both went up where was a lot of light. It was warm summer day with a lot of sun. Only outside Anna noticed that because she felt this warmth on her skin and looked around. It was beautiful, it was huge, it smelled nice.
She asked the woman: “What is it?”
Woman answered: “It is Freedom!”
I would like to invite @saimaqasim, @joan-na and @uzma4882 for this contest
A heart-captivating story. Which, after reading, made me feel like life has become compact. How can someone confine someone like this? Here, away from the reach of outside light, and for so many years. Just thinking about it gives me shock. What must have been the feelings of the person who went through it....
Indeed, freedom is a great blessing.
The time when we did not have internet and all social media we did not hear much such stories. Recently even here in UK we hear that situations like that happen, what makes me shocked that it is remain unknown for a long time and we wonder how it is possible?
I also often think what is happening in the soul of those people and likely they will never recover completely from such psychological trauma.
Thank you for reading :)
What's happening in the world, earlier we used to be unaware of it, but now due to social media, every news is accessible. Even people's sorrowful stories are accessible. But for some, it's a lesson, for some, it's beneficial, and for some, it has a negative impact on their mental health.
Thank you for participating in this contest. This is an amazing story you have shared with us . I love your entry! Best wishes …..

Thank you for reading :)
After publishing a post in the community, all 65 kids received food on both Saturday and Sunday. The need is great!
Oh wow! I got goosebumps reading your post.
It is so sad that this is close to reality...
Freedom is our right not only as far as our choices but also as far as various other aspects of our lives like freedom of speech, political rights, and more.
Thank you for taking part in this week's contest.
To have food for children is such gesture and I am sure kids were happy as well as their parents.
Lately we see on and off such news, that even in modern time this is happening that makes me scared when I think how much we maybe not aware about such situation. For children its the most important condition to grow free and develop their mental health to become strong personality. I wish everyone would think this way maybe then we would have healthy society. It was a pleasure to create my writing, thank you for hosting a contest.
How this landed up as part of the comment on your post I cannot tell. (•ิ‿•ิ)
Well, I am glad you got to read it. It seems like it was meant to be.
Children are close to my heart, and to be able to be part of a team that can give them 2 meals for the week is such a blessing.
