The future of graphics-based computing & AI

Interesting how scale works in both directions. As humanity reaches further into the cosmos, we have also managed to create worlds in the micro-verse. Technology has always been a beacon for progress, but now more than ever, we have an opportunity to create a global, digitized economy free of borders, middlemen, fees, and headaches. Advances in cryptography has disrupted entire industries and levelled the playing field for everyone.

The graphics-based semiconductors industry (namely NVidia & AMD) has been competing furiously in the growing field of AI & specifically deep learning. Previously, most people would associate graphics cards with gaming enthusiasts or video editors. Now, these technologies have proven to be ground-breaking in literally every other industry--whether its Netflix, Bloomberg, IBM, and all the way to companies working on automated driving or neural networks. These tools are powerful not only for tracking trends and analysis, but also for any project imaginable requiring raw computing and processing power.

One of the most interesting developments in this industry is interdisciplinary approach that many academics have been adopting in fields like neuroscience, computer-vision, AR/VR, and machine learning. Specifically in a new emerging subfield, namely deep learning, this interdisciplinary collaboration and networking will be even more crucial in the future of research into the human mind--and the practical applications of artificial intelligence. Some critics are quick to argue that the keys to progress in AI is not at all in biology or neuroscience. These views are silly in that nobody claims that these two fields are identical; at the same time, humanity has always been inspired by naturally occuring objects--including human intelligence. AI inherets human bias, and not acting accordingly is dangerous territory.

Most importantly, we are tasked with sustaining a healthy diversity and open atmosphere where anyone can express their ideas and recieve feedback on projects of any scale.
