Watch my pin-up inspired painting come to life in 3mins - Process and time-lapse for Poison Ivy - Deadly Divas series
So a while back, I had this idea to do a pin up inspired series of super hero and villain paintings staring the iconic comic book figures that I loved, and decided to title this series "Deadly Divas"
I wanted to make them sexy and playful and represent them in scenarios that you might seem them in, in their everyday lives
So I started off with Poison Ivy and began my initial sketch trying out different ideas and scenarios until I finally came up with the one I liked the most.
I transferred this to my watercolour paper added some masking fluid to the section I didn't want the paint to cover and started off on the initial washes, trying to establish the form and get a nice base layer to build upon
Masking fluid is a great tool to use when you want to preserve the white of the paper without having to paint around those areas, it dries to a light blue colour and can easily be removed by peeling it off.
Next, I started working on her suit to build up the greens, painted her lips and did some work on her pretty eyes.
Now its time to paint in the background with washes of green and using water and coarse salt to give it some texture. I choose to go with a red for the watering can to add some contrast to the piece and used some bright hot pink for the hearts around the ivy vine.
And here she is all finished and ready to kick some ass and premiere in her own time-lapse video which you can watch below. I was able to find a song that I think fit perfectly with her personality and the pin up inspired theme of the piece.
She's a bit of a saucy lady, you may have to start tagging these NSFW ;D. Only joking!
Great skin tones on this and I like the contrast in styles between the energetic background and the controlled shading of her outfit.
hahahaha thanks for the laughs @opheliafu I really appreciate your feedback and so glad you liked her, I wanted to add some splashes of bright colour to contrast with the green, and I think the hot pink especially worked really well :)
Looks great, I'm working on one right now with a bit of hot pink. Maybe we can turn Steemit a bit more colourful.
YES!! let's colour steemit pink!! LOL it needs more colour :)
Very cool stuff.
How long did the entire process take you?
How vivid is the picture in your mind before you start painting? And how much improvisation is there along the way? Cause when I draw something I end up like a trainwreck version of one of those "this is what I think I look like, this is what I actually look like" memes.
testing:
Awesome! Any idea who originally made that RSA token follow gif?
@daut44 Normally a watercolour painting this size takes me about 4 hours. I usually have an idea of what I want to do but it always changes along the way, I like to kind of let the painting develop on its own and be what it wants to be.
hahaha and I hear ya, sometimes things don't come out as planned, but atleast you learn something from the experience :)
No idea who made the original gif, but special thanks to them because its awesome!! :)
Are you a painter? @andressilvera
The painting looks very lively and so beautiful.
I really like to see it.

Thanks @fotoflares :)
It's very cool!
Thanks @acidsun I really appreciate that!
Beautifully done as always. Love the green hues in this one.
Thanks for that @thecryptofiend I usually don't use much green n my palette so this was fun to do with some colours I wouldn't normally use :)
As always, it's practically hypnotic watching you create these works of art. How do you decide what to create next?
thanks so much @steemitpatina really glad you enjoyed it! I usually go through my sketch book and paint an idea that really hits me and says to me "paint me" lol.. this why I love doing sketches of ideas so I always have something to choose from :)
That makes a lot of sense. I do the same for writing - scribbled notes in my always-present notebook so I've got a whole host of ideas when it's time to sit down and create. It's amazing what having a stockpile of ideas can do to chase away writer's block... or painter's block!
definitely!! it really does help to get as much down on paper as you can when you are inspired, it will save you tons of headaches in those times that creative block hits :)
Very cool @andressilvera
I'm a big fan of pin up girls from the WWII era. There's something so....American art about it. I don't know how to explain it better. LOL
But I love your interpretation of Poison Ivy! She's one of my favorite bad guys. :)
Thanks @merej99 so glad you like her! Im a big fan of pin up art too! it totally is an all american representation of women of that era, and I really wanted to put my own spin on things, next up is Wonder Woman, so hopefully you check her out :)
Really great! I enjoy your work and your videos. Keep em coming. Thanks
Thanks @matthewtiii im so glad you're enjoying them! Ill definitely be posting more soon :)
