Lulu's 2017 Yearly Studio Newsletter & 2018 News

It is my pleasure to share updates about my art activities with you. In 2017, I was fortunate to work with great art professionals and exhibit my work with other amazing artists in wonderful venues.

In March, my installation, "Threshold", was selected to be a part of the exhibition "Rewoven" at the QCC Art Gallery.

In April, a sculpture and a calendar piece of mine were shown in El Museo de Los Sures.

2017 was a special year for me. Around the end of 2016, I started a series of color paintings through which I explored my memories about people that mattered in my life. Meanwhile, I kept working on some sculpture pieces that I began a while ago.

In May, these works were presented in a duo solo show in Cloud Gallery in Taipei. It was delightful to share my art with family and friends in my hometown.

In the summer, I had a great honor to exhibit my sculpture series, Impression, as a part of Bronx Calling: The Fourth AIM Biennial. It showcased 72 artists selected to the AIM program in the past two years. Participating in the AIM has cultivated my artistic community. It has been wonderful to stay in touch and become friends with many great artists/persons that I met through the program.

In July, serendipitously, I met An-An Chen, an amazing artist and resident of Residency Unlimited and Flux Factory. It was inspirational to do a project with her at Flux Factory.
Special thanks to my admirable actress friend, Chun Cho, for her remarkable closing performance!
This project was experimental in all aspects. Chun Cho improvised on site without knowing exactly how the show would be like. Here is an edited clip of her performance.

Special thanks to Think!Chinatown and chashama for the generous support.

Later in October, I was introduced to an artist/curator, Luke Cheng, who co-curated the exhibition, "Eating Bitterness" with Simon Wu. It was an incredible opportunity to reflect on my cultural heritage and family influence through the project in the exhibition.

"Generation"

One fall evening, I ran into a person I respect highly, who then introduced me to Kundalini Yoga and meditation. Without much planning, the various projects I've worked on this year have led me to explore the emotional part of me. It has been a great year full of reflection on my personal history, influence from others and myself. Things have happened around and to me seemingly align themselves with notions I am exploring. Naturally I gravitate toward searching inward while nurturing relationships with others.

I am developing and experimenting on new work influenced by mindfulness, emptiness in Buddhist philosophy and yoga practice. It has been fun and rewarding! I will certainly keep you posted along the way!!

Last but not least, wish you have an auspicious 2018!
