Quikees - Quest for the BEST All Natural Toothbrushes!
Welcome to the All Natural Teeth Quest for the BEST All Natural Toothbrushes!
Featuring - Quikees
I am a dental hygienist turned passionate stay-at-home Mum, sharing my experiences - parent to parent - in what works to keep our families healthy when using natural ways to keep our children's teeth clean, strong and free from cavities.
I am the founder of All Natural Teeth where we have a sweet tooth for tooth truth. We use natural techniques and a few carefully chosen conventional practices to educate families and communities about their dental health.
I am on a quest on behalf of my family and my followers to find the best all natural toothbrush to accompany our all natural dental health home care routine of homemade toothpaste and oil pulling, along with our regular checkup and cleanings at the dental office.
I am tired of plastics, synthetics, chemicals and toxins...and I know you are too!
Earlier this year my family, including my husband and myself, and our three children reviewed the Quikees bamboo toothbrush.
You can view "The Reveal" on the rdh DTube Channel.
Watch as my family and I unwrap our products from Quikees!
It's genuine, innocent and fantastic.
Did you know that Quikees use organic bamboo for the handles of their brushes?
What is important about this?
Bamboo is a renewable resource, meaning the bamboo can replenish itself naturally and just happens to be one of the fastest growing plants in the world.
I am not exaggerating when I say that doing the product reviews on the toothbrushes from Quikees, RADIUS and OLA Bamboo have changed my family's life.
Call it a social conscience, environmental responsibility, or just plain old accountability.
Whatever you name it, "it" is what drives the companies who chose to participate in the All Natural Teeth Quest for the BEST All Natural Toothbrushes!
And this revelation has now been embedded into our being - learning has effectively taken place and I can no longer purchase a common plastic toothbrush understanding the consequences of that simple action.
Sure, I want limited exposure to common plastics in my own mouth and around my family, but more to the point - I DON'T WANT THAT SAME TOOTHBRUSH TO STILL BE IN THE LANDFILL WHEN MY KIDS HAVE KIDS.
Instead let's talk about toothbrushes that are eco-friendly, sustainable and affordable!
Biodegradable means the toothbrush will break down into carbon dioxide, water and biomass within a reasonable amount of time in the natural environment.
Compostable toothbrushes are biodegradable, the bonus being they break down quickly and they release good nutrients into the soil, which adds to the health of the flora close by them, and producing no toxic residues.
Recyclable toothbrushes can be collected and reprocessed to produce new products. Recycling is necessary in order to keep plastics and other reusable material waste out of the landfills.
Quikees bamboo toothbrushes are biodegradable, compostable AND recyclable.
Easing the burden on our earth and the generations to come.
We hope this helps clear up any confusion and to help you understand truly what phenomenal values this company adheres to. Their actions are accountable and it will make a difference to many generations to come.
The information about this company and their products is available here at All Natural Teeth as well as vlog'd on the rdh DTube Channel.
So there is the background info out of the way.
Now you are primed for the main event - Quikees. Let's break it down.
When I first spoke to the founder of Quikees I could sense his passion for the mission of his company even through just the wording of his email. I was impressed with how humble and honest he was but could also tell that he has a drive and passion for this. Specifically, I was told,
"Our first goal was trying to make a toothbrush without plastics. We know we are not quite there yet. Our bristles are still made of nylon, and have yet to find a comparable natural solution. But we are constantly working hard to change this."
Well done Quikees!
Quikees make adult-sized bamboo toothbrushes in two different varieties, the O'Natural and Classic, The classic having a water based paint on the bottom of the handle to help differentiate between owners.
When I first took on this quest it was because I took a look at the world my family lived in and realized although we had made many good decisions regarding our health and lifestyle, we had reached the next level and it was time to make more serious and more permanent changes. One of them was changing up that plastic brush we stick in our mouths countless times a day. Was there a way to reduce our exposure even more to plastics, synthetics, chemicals and toxins?!
We were about to find out.
Quikees state on their website that they "BUILD THE BEST PRODUCT, FOCUS ON OUR DUAL RESPONSIBILITY TO OUR BODIES, AND OUR PLANET."
Wow.
Now this was a total different angle that I had not anticipated on the outset of this quest.
Some quick research after learning more about Quikees showed me that our landfills are filled with toothbrushes.
Gross.
But I will let Quikees explain more about this, as this is a topic they are the experts in.
Here is what they have to say:
"The Issue With Plastics is...
They end up in our trash cans, on our streets, our beaches, our forests. Once created, plastics can never be eliminated. Recycling is only a temporary solution. Its an high energy process that transmutes plastic from one form to the next, with no end of life solution. And most plastics eventually end in the dump.
Every small change away from single use plastics helps. Quikees is a better solution to plastic toothbrush market. Its delivers the same result without plastics, and...its just cool.
Bamboo toothbrushes and a happy planet.
Plastic disposable toothbrushes suck. There, we said it. We all know single-use plastic is a big problem for the planet. When was the last time you recycled your plastic toothbrush? Quikees are made out of bamboo, with is renewable and biodegradable. Its a better solution than disposable plastic.
Grab a quikee, add a little color, brush them pearly whites. Great toothbrushes, and a happy planet, delivered to your door. No thinking, all smiles."
Want to see it for yourself?
Quikees package their product in a thin yet sturdy brown paper/cardboard type material. It definitely looks like it can be recycled, and I wonder if possibly it is even made from recycled materials?
Check out The Reveal video on the rdh DTube Channel to see for yourself.
The rounded brush handles are made from long-lasting bamboo and feel great in the hand. The Quikees logo is carved into the wood of the handle. They source organic bamboo for the handle which is a renewable resource that is the fastest growing plant on earth. It apparently can grow up to 3 feet in a day!
They use nylon bristles but are working on an alternative to this. The bristles are only available in medium, this a matter of preference really, but wouldn't be a bad idea to offer soft and even ultrasoft. Most dental professionals recommend a soft toothbrush to minimize trauma of aggressive brushing to the teeth and gums.
Quikees state their bristles are recyclable... but during this quest we learned although the brush handles are recyclable, compostable and biodegradable, and perhaps the bristles too, the problem is the metal staples which attach the bristles to the brush head. These are found in every brush, no matter how socially conscious or environmentally friendly the company and brushes are. Therefore making the brush heads not recyclable, or compostable, or biodegradable.
There are 5 bright colors to choose from and the paints used are water based.
We reviewed the Classic and O'Natural which are adult-sized only , it would be great to see some kid-sized toothbrushes because our kid's just love their Quikees brushes!
Speaking of the kids, they were slightly unsure about bamboo at the beginning of our quest. None of us had ever brushed with a bamboo toothbrush before and we were surprised that when the wood gets wet, it feels very different as it comes in contact with your cheeks, lips and tongue than does a common plastic toothbrush. Saying that, we got used to it very quickly and now we don't even think about it at all.
Something to watch out for is those who brush with activated charcoal just be sure to rinse the brush head off thoroughly when finished brushing as the charcoal can somewhat leave a darkening on the brush head. It mostly rinses off, but does leave some residue. I'm sure this is harmless and just aesthetic - it is after all charcoal and not anything harmful!
As stated above, the bristles are nylon...but they are working on that! Even though the bristles are nylon and medium stiffness, to touch and feel do they appear to be softer, or fuzzier than typical toothbrush bristles..and they are recyclable, BPA and phthalate free.
Our experience using the Quikees brushes:
We love the feel of the bamboo handle, and love that this brush is sustainable, biodegradable and renewable... as a Registered Dental Hygienist and Mum, on behalf of my family and All Natural Teeth we are happy to recommend the Quikees O Natural and Classic as two of the BEST all natural toothbrushes!
