Beer Review: Sam Adams Octoberfest
It's October, so for beer connoisseurs, that means it's time for Oktoberfest. Although I live as far away from Munich as one can get, I'm still raising my beer can. Today I picked up Sam Adams' Octoberfest beer. I usually dislike Sam Adams because it's so heavy and rich in calories but it's a special occasion.
What is Maerzen? This is a type of beer that is usually only served around Oktoberfest. The reason for its name is that it's brewed in March for use in the fall. When I opened the bottle I thought it was going to be a pumpkin spice flavor beer due to the orange color. But it's not. It's technically a lager but dark.
This beer is also very rich in hops similar to IPA. I don't know why that is. This type of beer seems to be a cross between lager, Guinness and IPA. Right now I'm feeling tipsy because the alcohol level is quite high at 5.6%. Cheers and happy Oktoberfest, wherever you are.
