overflow bug SERIOUS

seems a block at height 74638 has expoited a bug in the net. It uses an integer overflow to make a negative total transaction.

The two transaction outputs are:

out Value:92233720368.54(7ffffffffff85ee0) out Value:92233720368.54(7ff
ffffffff85ee0)

We need a fix asap

This could be a serious problem. Bitcoin's printblock also shows it:

It looks like we overtook the bad chain somewhere around 74689. 0.3.9 and lower nodes have been responding with the current block number for some hours now.

That means it's no longer necessary to delete blk*.dat before upgrading. You can just upgrade and it'll reorg away the bad block chain.

Thanks to everyone for the quick response

This is now known as the value overflow incident

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Value_overflow_incident

Block 74638 contained a transaction that created 184,467,440,737.09551616 bitcoins for three different addresses

Part 2 in this exclusive Steemit investigative report will focus on how the 185 Billion Bitcoin Overflow Incident and Bitcoin Cash fork are linked.

Sort:

Can't wait to see more. If the outputs were the 2 tx of 92233720368.54275808 and the one for 50.51, was it a normal function of the code or a bug with the block reward payout? I don't know enough to hazard a guess but I can't imagine there was a large group even understanding what it meant.
The 50 was the block reward and the rest to phantoms?
Satoshi confirms bad chain overtaken? So no more phantom coins?
Does the original bitcoin blockchain even exist today? In what form?

Scariest posts from bots start with " I'm a bot, and I'm here to help"

That is funny. Just about forgot the welcome bots. Don't much care for them but they will be ..what can you do? It is ridiculous as hell on here sometimes. I even made a meme about it. Never thought I'd do that, or even be on social before steemit.

There is an error .... This bot comment insinuates plagiariser . Look through the link and point out exactly where I didn't cite sources. I have cited my source. I will ignore this message if you delete the accusation.

Block 74638 contained a transaction that created 184,467,440,737.09551616 bitcoins for three different addresses!

Dare I ask what addresses? And whose addresses? Links you say?

I'm waiting for bad actors to reveal themselves... so far crickets .... thanks for resteeming this info. ..Someone will stop in the comment section eventually too offer an explanation why this is no big deal or they suspect that;s what im fishing for.... like I wrote the cricket response to this speaks volumes ,,.. I have other information that adds more depth to this steemit investigation.... stay tuned... https://www.investopedia.com/terms/g/gametheory.asp

I'm sure whom/who ever tried to game the system didn't stop there. I walked away from bitcoin for some time after the board was changed out and the "briefings" given to the various "fed" cults.
And I have always felt something changed along the way and the current forks are a result of the smarter, non programmable individuals, that figured it out. And want no part of a phony bitcoin. IMHO

Multi hijack clusterfuster fooky too disinterest smart folks like yourself....... BTC is an application

This is deep. How are people not resteeming this. Bring more! Thanks for sharing man.

I will also be sharing info I've uncovered regarding the DAO hack exclusively on Steemit .
https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/2w08qk/progress_on_the_bomb/

.

Wow, this is the first I've heard about this. I am interested in understanding how this slipped by everyone else as I've not heard the first mention of a bad block or bug in the system. However, I did notice where in the memo satoshi says to upgrade and it will "reorg". I wonder could that have anything to do with the fluctuation and volatility or is that to be expected in the market place? Curious.

Freaking hilarious and completely ironic at the moment.

you're good at this :)

Segwit "might" let some phantoms sneak in... if it was ever discovered...BTC dies immediately

And conspiracies never exist! It's a tangled web for sure. Have you ever reached out to Roger Ver?
I'm sure he knows. Does this exist on BCH blockchain? Charlie ever comment on it? Was LTC created before or after this block? Wish I had more time.

This thread now gives someone doing due diligence on BTC some links.... nice one.

you still on this? recent developments with bugs have me thinking about due diligence again. I think someone else is also..

Hell of a hook! The old forums are a wealth of info. Good luck and good timing.

Thank to you so much. This post very important now.So we can save from warning.Besides many of people become cheated by anti transaction society.
