[Hike #1] Beautiful South Korea. A lovely Lunch and Hike.

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

Not too long ago we went for a great lunch followed by an amazing hike in the mountains. At first we were all a bit hesitant simply because not every Tom, Dick and Harry wants to hang out with their boss on the weekend. After we all got picked up in the school's super yellow minivan we knew there was no backing out now. Low and behold it turned out to be an amazing little trip with great food and awesome views! Here are some pictures of a Saturday very well spent.

Lunch

We had some amazing boiled pork slices that simply melts in your mouth. Combine this with some black garlic (which is also very soft) and you have a little party in your mouth!

The 3rd row of pork slices are topped with a crushed black garlic paste, a very delightful yet strong flavor.

Like every meal in South Korea there are always loads of side dishes.

Dumplings!

Korean Pancake. Yes, you heard me correctly. Pancake. It's made with vegetables and leaves, topped with squid. Does not sound very appetizing, but dip it in a chili based sauce and once again the party continues in your mouth.

As always no Korean meal will be complete without Kimchi!

Random Fact: Most Koreans have refrigerators just for Kimchi. A Kimchi refrigerator is as common as any other household appliance. Today I asked my students who had a kimchi refrigerator. I was shocked when 10/10 said they have one.

The Hike.

We were greeted by this lovely entrance at the foot of the mountain. Look at the art on the roof, amazing right?!

Most Korean mountains offer you two ways to reach the temple. A nice paved walkway or little hike trails through the trees... We took the paved option. I normally choose the latter, but since we are a group and not all of use are wearing the right kind of shoes we just kept to the walkway.

Bark. Just thought it looked cool.

You can find these rock stacks all over South Korea mountains, for good luck.

Stream of water flowing through the mountain. The best sound you can hear out of the busy city, simply running water.

Little farm/gift shop halfway to the top.

Normally at the top of South Korean mountains you will find temples. The rest of the pictures are of the temple and all its beauty. Most of the time it's a quiet and calm place. Thus, I will not be commenting on these. Just take in the beauty and peacefulness.

Finally, after taking it all in we head back to our bright yellow minivan and drove home. A lovely Saturday indeed...

Good food, great company, lovely views. Beautiful South Korea.

This is just one of beautiful temples in South Korea. If you ever visit here it is HIGHLY recommended to take a hike and just enjoy the scenery. It's also a great workout!

See you again on my next hike!

Man that black garlic looks amazing. My cousin lives in South Korea, I need to go visit!

You should! The food is delicious, the people are friendly and it's a very lively place. Just be careful not to come in summer. It gets really hot and humid

Wow! You´re really making me want to go to South Korea now!
I love black garlic and that food looks sooo good! (I´m a foodie...)

Seriously, I´d love to go to South Korea once.
Nature looks really beautiful. I´ve been in Japan a couple of times and it reminds me of that.

Thanks for posting.

Peace, Peter

Gorgeous pictures but don't think I could eat squid even with a dip lol

Thank you! This is my third year in South Korea and most of the things I thought I would never try is now something I enjoy and crave all the time. Can't enjoy a meal without Kimchi now. Think I am becoming more Korean every day. Thanks for taking a look at my Saturday. =)
