Cichorium - Cichórium

This picture depicts the flower of Chicory. This plant, it seems, grows everywhere. On any lawn you can find this plant. And in Moldova and Ukraine, I see Chicory and it gives the impression that I'm everywhere, at home. With close examination, you can see that this flower is beautiful. Only from a distance, these flowers look dull.

Since childhood, I knew that chicory, it's a weather forecaster. If the flowers of chicory are closed, then the weather will not be the best, if the flowers are open, then prepare for a sunny day.

In this, perhaps, there is some truth, but I, many times saw bushes of this plant, on which were flowers and open and closed.

This flower I photographed in very cloudy weather, as you can see, it is open.

Still, from childhood memories, I remember a coffee substitute, which was made from roasted chicory roots. For some reason this drink was called, coffee spike Kolos, if I'm not mistaken. Gray-brown powder, which remotely resembled cheap coffee. In those days, especially there was nothing to choose from, and if there was this drink, then, it was drunk. I definitely tried

I considered this a relic of socialism, but I recently learned that roasted chicory root is added to expensive varieties of coffee to improve taste. That's how the stereotypes are erased. In my understanding, coffee is a taste! But no. In this case, the plant helps, whose root can reach a length of 15 meters, whose blue flowers have become a familiar sight.

I do not know what it is connected with, but, I rarely see bees. It is possible that chicory poorly gives nectar and for bees it is not interesting.

Slovak language is very similar to the Czech :).

So stick with us cuz Phineas and Ferb are gonna do it all.

Wow😱 this is something that really new to me, I rarely seen blue flowers in my country but purple are. I think chicory roots have a similar reaction with a spesific grass called "alang-alang" but in my country, we add corn, rice or pinang (betel palm) while roasting coffee bean in traditional style. But, no body get drunk after consume it.

Thank you for sharing this information with us, I think a spesific moth or ant or wind would pollinate it, not bees.

Thank you @dipoabasch ! I wrote only what I knew before. But, I began to read more about chicory and learned that in France it was specially grown, that some varieties of this plant are used in salads and other dishes. very interesting. Previously, I did not realize that a simple photo can be an excellent incentive to learn new information for yourself. About the plant, which you called alang-alang, in the sources say that this plant is a terrible disaster. That it is not suitable for anything good. That it is very tough and even the cattle do not eat it. You did not mistake the name?

Nope I am not.. We even have a good extract here used for cold drink along with lemon juice 😊 It must be a spesific one, will dig for more information later.

Sometimes in my country we have falsely named the plant for other species, just like we call lavender for angelonia just because it is look similar from a distance 😁.

I wanted to say that perhaps the same name for different plants in different countries. The one about which I have read. I write that it is a weed that everyone wants to get rid of and can not. You will get an excellent post with photos of this plant and a description of its use as a flavoring.

Well... Sometimes, some plants which categorised as weed but actually used by some people as herbal medicine 😂 well, I think I need my wife help about it because she knew more plants benefit than me.

We sometimes find that flowers that categorised as weed in your country become ornamental and has a high price. That's life... We're blessed with this diversion.

Yes it is, @dipoabasch . I agree to 300%.
