In this lesson we learn to talk about money! We also learn how to buy and sell items. Very useful indeed!

sān yuán 三元 3 yuan
sì kuài bā 四块八 4 yuan 80 cents (4.8 yuan)
mǎi 买 buy
mài 卖 sell
wǒ yǒu yì qiān yuán 我有一千元 I have 1000 yuan
tā yǒu liǎng bǎi kuài 他有两百块 He has 200 yuan
dōngxi 东西 things/stuff
mǎi dōngxi 买东西 buy something
zhège duōshǎo qián? 这个多少钱？How much is this one?
wǔ kuài èr 五块二 five twenty
nǐmen mài shǒujī ma 你们卖手机吗？Do you sell cellphones
wǒ yào mǎi liǎng píng jiǔ 我要买两瓶酒 I want to buy two bottles of wine
guì 贵 expensive
piányi 便宜 cheap
tài guì le 太贵了！Too expensive!
kě yǐ 可以 can/may
kěyǐ piányi yì diǎn ma 可以便宜一点吗？Can it be cheaper? (can you offer me a lower price)
bù kěyǐ 不可以 cannot / may not
nǐ bù kěyǐ qù 你不可以去 You cannot go
qián bāo 钱包 wallet
kǎ 卡 card
tāde kǎ zài nǎ? 他的卡在哪？Where is his card?
yǒu qián 有钱 have money /rich
méi qián 没钱 have no money

nǐ yào mǎi shénme dōngxi? 你要买什么东西？What things do you want to buy?
zhè gè bīngqīlín duōshǎo qián? 这个冰淇淋多少钱？How much is this ice-cream?
wǒ yào qù chāoshì mǎi dōngxi 我要去超市买东西 I want to go to the supermarket to buy something
nà xiē shuǐguǒ hěn piányi 那些水果很便宜 Those fruits are very cheap
zhè xiē chīde bú mài 这些吃的不卖 This food is not for sale
wǒ yào mǎi zhè xiē tián diǎn 我要买这些甜点 I want to buy these desserts
zhè jiā cān guǎn bú mài zhūròu 这家餐馆不卖猪肉 This restaurant doesn’t sell pork
(jiā 家 home/family, or used as a measure word for families/stores/restaurants etc.)
zhè gè shàng yī shì sān bǎi bā shí yuan 这个上衣是三百八十元 this shirt is 380 yuan
wǒde péngyǒu mǎile yì tái diàn shì, xiànzài méiyǒu qián le 我的朋友买了一台电视，现在没有钱了
my friend bought a TV, now (they) don’t have money
zhèshuāng fěnsè xiézi tài guì le, kě yǐ piányi yì diǎn ma 这双粉色鞋子太贵了，可以便宜一点吗？
this pair of pink shoes are too expensive, can they be cheaper?
