I never played the old sonic games (expect Sonic R which I loved as a teen despite it being average in everything)... this article made me interested again in the franchise... do you think I should play the first ones first since you said this is a "sequel"?

Well, probably not since these days I have more games than I can play for a month and I don't want to add to my to-play list. unless I finish one~

    No man you can just play Sonic Mania without playing anything else before, it has some old levels from a mix of the games, and just to clarify what i meant with "the sequel sonic deserves" title, i meant that Sonic 4 came out so bad, that this one could almost be counted as the "true" sequel that the awesome series deserves :) But its not a direct sequel in the common sense of the word.
