Greedy Publishers, Lazy Developers... Can We Actually Send THEM A Message?! - Gaming Wars (GW) #7steemCreated with Sketch.

The news about Mass Effect has come and gone, and the game is so badly received by the gaming community at large, that EA is now giving it away for free! Yeah... it's THAT bad...

But what can we take away from this?

Two things, actually. The first being that when a publisher (in this case, EA) gets greedy and wants to push the developer on a schedule even though they didn't have the graphics and other major glitches finished before release, they can't get your money. The community was looking forward to sinking their teeth into another potential Trilogy and to forget about the ME3's controversial endings, but instead they were met with an incomplete game. We can blame the publisher for this.

The second lays with the developer, I'm looking at YOU BioWare... The story writers, producers and general directors need to be ashamed at completely abandoning the old style that fans were familiar with and delivering a lackluster story. When they made transitions from ME1 to ME3, you could tell they were very different games, but there was a TRANSITION between the games. After so many years between 3 and 4, and then none of the old characters being carried over, you are putting yourself at risk for a flop, big time.

But that's not the issue. The real issue is that developers are pushing the boundaries with lazy storytelling. Had these been the same characters as before, and I am willing to bet my left leg that the game wouldn't have flopped instantly. It would have been complaints, but the fan base would have stayed. Hell, look at Halo 5's story and come back and tell me this can't be done. They wrote themselves into an impossible to win scenario, but somehow they are sure to get out of it, because they HAVE to.

Developers want money, and they are looking to do what it takes to cut corners to get it. We need this to be a lesson that we will not just take crap thrown at us as gamers just because it has a pretty tag and name recognition. We deserve respect, and we need these developers to wake up. And the only way we can do that is with our dollars.
