NA LCS - The New League of Legends Teams
Kappa.
The 2018 spring split of the NA LCS is going to feature new teams that have never been seen before. Of course, as always, the teams will mainly be stacked with familiar faces as the current pool of professional players to choose from is limited. In this post I am going to introduce you to the new teams and will explain what we know so far about each of them.
GOLDEN GUARDIANS
GGS
This new team gets its name from the owner, Joe Lacob. For those who do not know his name already, he is the owner of the NBA team, Golden State Warriors. Yeah, ring a bell? It should. They have brought home the championship win for the past 2 out of 3 NBA seasons. Joe is bringing with him a lot of business and sports know-how (as well as money *cough*), and it will be interesting to see how this all culminates into a team and staff. As of right now, these are the names that we know of:
Coach: Locodoco (who coached TSM for years, leading them to several split wins)
Jungle: Contractz
Mid: Hai
Top: Lourlo
ADC: Deftly
Support: Matt
Clutch Gaming
CG
This new team brings yet another NBA team into the fray, the Houston Rockets. It's owner, Tilman Fertitta, bought into the NA LCS and unlike many of the other new teams, he is not new to the scene. A year and a half before he officially bought a spot into the NA LCS, he had built a League of Legends scouting system that is still unparalleled today. It is no doubt that Clutch Gaming is serious about starting off on strong footing. Here are the names that we know of so far:
Coach: DLim
Jungle: LirA
Mid: Febiven
Top: Solo
ADC: Apollo
Support: Hakuho
100 Thieves
100
In case anyone was wondering, the 100 Thieves team brings yet another NBA team to the table, the Cleveland Cavaliers. If you can imagine, there may be a little angst the first time they go into the rift against the Golden Warriors. However, unlike the Golden Warriors, the 100 Thieves is partly owned by Nadeshot, a legend in the worldwide eSports scene. Nadeshot has won 7 major gaming titles over his eSports career and more than knows what he is doing. Here is their starting roster that we know of:
Jungle: Meteos
Mid: Ryu
Top: Ssumday
Optic Gaming
OPT
The Green Wall comes to League of Legends. Optic Gaming is not new to eSports. They are a legendary brand across the globe with a massive following and with championship wins across the eSports spectrum. It will be interesting to see how such a successful eSports brand does in League of Legends. Here is the roster that we know of thus far:
Coach: Zaboutine
Jungler: Akaadian
That will round the new teams up. Of course we will see TSM, Cloud 9, Echo Fox, FlyQuest, CLG, and Team Liquid. Only time will tell how the 2018 Spring Split goes, but it is definitely exciting. Share your thoughts below in the comments and let everyone know who you believe will be the strongest new team.
Thanks!
