HIP HOP LEGENDS OF 90s #5 - Wu-Tang Clan

in #hiphop7 years ago

Once I saw the crowd of MCs on the stage! I listened Wu-Tang Clan probably 15-16 years before that, but in 2013 I had my first chance to e on their concert! They came in my country, even in my little city. Although I was huge fan of Wu-Tang during my teenage years, I couldn't imagine 8 MCs on the stage doing perfect job! Wu-Tang Clan are hip hop legends of all times and they made so many classics s a group and it's members as individual solo rappers.

HIP HOP LEGENDS OF 90s

WU-TANG CLAN

I listened Method Man before Wu-Tang and first Wu Tang album that I put my hands on was "Wu-Tang forever". I couldn't imagine that so many people can work as a group. But that sort of group requires perfect leadership. In Wu-Tang such a leader is RZA. He made all beats, he produced many solo albums of Wu-Tang members and he kinda keeps all of them in one place.

The group was formed in early 90s and the original crew were RZA, GZA, Masta Killa, U-God, Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Method Man and Raekwon. Well, Ol' Dirty Bastard died of overdose i 2004 and from 2014, Cappadonna, who was full-tim WuTang associate became official member of Clan.

In 1993 they released their first album "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)" which is considered by many as the best hip hop album ever. RZA presented his raw and dirty style of producing beats and that style he kept and today. With this album they made foundations that shaped style a lot of young MCs and producers in next years.

The best songs are "C.R.E.A.M." and "Protect Ya Neck".

Second album "Wu-Tang Forever" was released in 1997. Between first and second album many Clan mebers recorded their solo albums, including Method Man and Raekwon. Those two are best Wu-Tang MCs by my opinion. Best song was Triumph.

The third album "The W" was released in 2000, after more solo albums of the members. It seemed that when they all all together, they want to have that old raw and dirty Wu-Tang style, while they prefer clean and smooth track on their solo issues. The best tracks were "Gravel Pit" and "Conditioner" with Snoop Dogg.

Forth album "Iron Flag" was released a year later with hit single "Uzi".

Fifth album came out in 2007 under name "8 Diagrams" and it was their first album after death of ODB. The album received most positive critics and it seemed that they remained faithful to their good old style. Nice song to listen is "The Heart Gently Weeps" with Erykah Badu, Dhani Harrison and John Frusciante.

An album "A Better Tomorrow" from 2014 received mixed critics while "Once Upon a Time in Shaolin" received mostly negative critics.

You really put a lot of effort in this Hip Hop series. Much respect for that.

Thank you but efforts are not proportional with rewards
