Emsonic Reviews - Elex
When Piranha Bytes announces a new game, fans are only asking one question - how much will it look like Gothic? Elex - the new game from the German studio is a breath of fresh air. Various, intermingling fantastic atmosphere in the greatest open world of creators. Elex is following the way of Gothic step by step, if we already know that, let's ask a more appropriate question - how good is Elex a Gothic and will the nameless person finally be able to retire?
In Elex, we play the role of a certain Jax, who is betrayed and thrown into the valley behind a magical barrier ... er, I mean, it's not exactly like that, but as you can see - the beginning of the game is very similar to Gothic. The world was destroyed by the cosmic rock that brought the title element to the earth, giving power but taking away humanity. The starting point for our character is so interesting that it gets rid of Elex for the first time and it affects the entire storyline. By making choices, our daredevil changes not only the world around him, but most of all himself. He returns to old habits or becomes a free man. The universe and the people inhabiting it are strong here. In Elex, factions are diverse, complex, and often internally divided.
As was the case in Gothic, in each faction we can advance and contribute in various ways and in return we get special skills. The main features of Elex tasks are that they are often multi-threaded, open-ended, with several paths to goal. And they are unpredictable and sometimes even chaotic. In short, it often happens that the consequences of our actions are quite the opposite of what we expected, and some orders get out of hand. Going a step further, the Studio took care of various internal conflicts, for example, a power struggle or division into two cities, as well as there are side factions here.
The world of this game is very diverse, in one part we have winter, in the other part we have lava, and in another we have forests. Well, this is probably practically everything.
In the bestiary there are scavengers like gothic ones, mechs, trolls or even mutants.
Honestly, I haven't seen a world like in this game for a long time and I don't know if it turned out to be a plus or a minus, in Elex not many aspects of the construction of the world seem to make sense, but it depends who likes what.
The very execution of the map deserves attention. In Elex, our character has been equipped with a jetpack, thanks to which we can get literally everywhere. This idea works really well, even though the use of Jetpack itself is a bit wooden. The creators of the game made sure that in many places of the map there were some hidden elements, and this is what I like the most in such games, i.e. secrets.
Fighting is like fighting. In this game, which is the same as in Gothic, it is not very satisfying, actually the same and it was in Risen. But as far as we know, this studio has a problem with a good combat setup. The graphics are nice, maybe it's not a big work of art, but I think it might be enough. The most important thing about this game is the exploration, which is what I love the most about this type of game and I think Gothic fans will love this game. I had a great time! So I recommend!
