Earning income from posting on Bitcointalk

Bitcointalk (https://bitcointalk.org) is the original discussion forum for the Bitcoin project. As such, it’s the go-to place for bitcoin related discussion. The forum also offers a somewhat convoluted way to earn income from posting. There’s a steady influx of new Bitcointalk users who know there’s money to be made but don’t understand the mechanics involved. This is why I’m offering the following guidance.

The most important way of earning income from posting on Bitcointalk is through joining one of the signature campaigns active on the forum. Each time you post, you ‘wear’ a signature specified by a campaign manager so that the signature is appended to your post. Campaigns usually run in rounds of two or four weeks. At the end of each round, if your posting activity fulfils the requirements of the signature campaign, the campaign manager will pay you by sending bitcoins to your wallet address. But let’s take it from the top.

When you join Bitcointalk, your membership rank will be ‘brand new’. As you post, you will automatically graduate first to ‘newbie’ and then to ‘junior member’. But in order to be able to ‘wear’ a signature with clickable links, you must advance one step further, to the rank of ‘member’. The catch is that to achieve this, merely posting isn’t enough. You also need to have been an active member for approximately two months, and additionally, you need to receive ten merit points from other users. Merit points are a little like Steemit upvotes or Facebook likes. They can be given for original posts as well as for comments. But merit points are scarce, so people will give them to you only if they find your posts useful. Or funny, or otherwise meritorious. Also, it’s possible to award any number of merit points at a time, so you might even receive the ten merit points you need all in one go.

Being active for two months and gaining the ten merit points is the hard part. When you’ve done that, all that’s left is to join a signature campaign on Bitcointalk, post away and collect your earnings. Good luck!
