Yes they are. They might not be good for you, but they are organic. In the original sense of the word: they contain carbon (other than things like carbon dioxide, diamond and carbonates which aren't classed as being organic). Basically, they're hydrocarbons.

You, yourself, are organic. You are made up of proteins, fats and sugars. When you die, should you wish to be cremated, you will burn. Because you are organic.

Buy a dictionary if you're unsure.

Because carbon has a valency of 4, it can bond with 4 other atoms with the other atoms all bonding solely to the carbon and not each other. Eg. methane (CH4 - one carbon with 4 hydrogen atoms attached to it). Burn methane in oxygen and you get the following formula: CH4 + 2O2 = CO2 + 2H20 One methane molecule burns with two oxygen molecules to give one carbon dioxide molecule and two water molecules.

I seem to recall there are hundreds of thousands of known organic molecules, possibly millions.

The organic you thought I was referring to was the farming practices hippy-shit organic which has only been fashionable for a few decades. We didn't use it in that sense when I was a lad 30 years ago.

Hth. Lol
