“From ‘Producer’ to Producer”: Value Triangle Summary

in #jamarlin6 years ago

You are what you value. If you value a nice car, you will work to make the money to buy that car. If you value your significant other, you will work to maintain that relationship. Being a better parent your desire? You spend time and become more present with your children. So to be successful at your job, what makes you think you don’t need to spend time getting better at what you want to do either?

Apprenticeships are a way to learn how to sharpen and develop your talents. The problem is people confuse apprenticeships with jobs. People want to get paid to learn how to do their jobs and believe that if they are not getting paid that it is a waste of their time.

I ran into a foreign exchange student that was studying in America, while attending college. Back home for him it was astronomical to study English, but English in America is free. For this person it’s smarter to spend time learning the language than working a minimum wage job (unless they could do both effectively of course).

Colleges and Universities are just trade schools at the end of the day. You learn how to develop your talents further in school and then apply those newly developed talents out in the world to generate income and change the world (in which ever order you want).

There are three keys to success and they operate in a triangle:

TIME

You need to control your time. Without controlling your time, your time controls you. If you can help someone else save time, that is how you can make money. Your time should be used primarily to develop your talents when you are younger. You should always invest more time in yourself than in others. This investment is far more important than your commitments to anyone else, because people will take your time from you if you allow them to.

Time is not something you can get back and once its gone its gone. While you are younger, you have fewer responsibilities. The freedom that allows an individual to have will be envied when the years fade. It is important to invest your time in the things that you are willing to die for, because it will take your life to get great at them.

MONEY/VALUE

Money/Value is everywhere; you just need to know how to find it. Money alone is not enough to be successful. Money can assist an individual in hiring those with time and hiring those with talent to help them become successful, but without having the talent to manage the operation themselves, the money holder is a slave to the people that can actually produce actual work.

If you have time and you are already talented, you typically trade your time for money. This is called having a job or being employed. The problem is everything you create under someone else’s employment ultimately does not belong to you. In this scenario, an individual consistently has to trade their time for money.

The caveat to that is the more talented the individual becomes, either through education or experience, the more their time should be valued and thus they should command higher wages.

TALENT

Talent is the one thing that we are all born with. We all have a unique talent, but that does not mean that everyone is destined to be famous and/or a celebrity. Talents are the things in life that come easiest to you.

Talents are the things that you should learn to monetize if you want to have a successful, happy life. This is because if you wake up passionate about the things that you do, you will never feel obligated to do them.

In our society, there are individuals that envy others’ talents. The jealous girl that doesn’t understand why she wasn’t picked for a run way shoot over another; or the actor that got looked over for the part they just believed that no one was more suited for than them.

Everyone believes that they are a star, and that’s because individuals do not consistently put themselves into situations to find out how good they really are.

You need some combination of Time, Money/Value and/or Talent to be successful.
Luckily you only need two to be successful; however, having all three will make you famous. If you have enough time and talent, you will find money.

If you have enough time and money, you can develop your talents. If you have money and talent you can use skills to hire other competent talented individuals to increase your time by buying some of theirs.
