Fly over the Everest & Nepal Travel Tips

I visited in Nepal years ago to hike in Annapurna, a massif in the Himalayas.

The three most famous trekking trails in Annapurna from easiest to hardest are Poon Hill, ABC(Annapurna Base Camp Trek), and Annapurna Circuit.

Although we chose the easiest trail Poon Hill, we were still exhausted everyday. However, this intensive trip more or less changed the way I think about my life and the world.

The impact of the trip started before hiking. Actually it was from the window of the flight. You'll fly over the Everest on the way to Kathmandu. I immediately understand why so many people want to conquer the Everest even with the price of their own lives. I really don't think anyone can resist the magnificent yet dangerous beauty of the mountain.

Travel tips

Flight

If you don't want to miss this splendid view, be sure to do your homework on which side you can see the Everest. Book the window seat as early as possible - maybe one month prior to the departure date. Or arrive early at the counter.

I flew from Chengdu, China to Kathmandu with Air China. There was no direct flight from Shanghai to Kathmandu at that time. You had to stop by Chengdu, or Kunming (with Chine Eastern Airlines), or Guangzhou (with China Southern Airlines). If you take the Air China flight as I did, please ask for the seat K or L so you can see the Everest.

Trekking Permit & TIMS Card

You need to have trekking permit and TIMS card before you can hike in Nepal.

The travel agency applied them for us. But the tips can be found easily on Welcome Nepal.

For Chinese citizens who booked your trip with travel agencies, your agency need the visa information to apply the trekking permit for you. If you're backpack on your own, you actually can apply visa on arrival.

Language

That's not an issue for English speakers. Most Nepalis can speak good English. Because there are so many Chinese visitors every year, people who work in the travel related industries can even speak Chinese. And, don't be surprised if you hear the latest popular Internet lingo in China from a Nepalis.

Actually I was shocked that some of our hiking guides had difficulties in writing their native language...One of the guides said he can only write in English. The other guide thought for really a long time before he wrote down one word. I think maybe he wrote some words in the wrong way. However, I won't know which ones are wrong LOL

Currency

Credit cards are accepted at major hotels, restaurants and shops. You can pay for your outdoor activities with US dollars in Nepal.

You can exchange currencies in hotels, restaurants, etc. I heard that the exchange rate at the airport is not very good. You can also withdraw cash in Kathmandu at ATMs from banks such as Standard Chartered.

I have this on my bucket list for a long while :) still enjoying others stories and pictures from this place :D

Thank you for stopping by :)

Rightly said! Having been stood on the summit of Everest, I can say that it's beauty, magnificence and aura is too good to resist. The mountain changes you as a person. You come out much wiser than you went in.

Thank you for reading! I'll definitely read your Everest diaries~
