Introduction to meditation
People have used meditation for thousands of years in their quest for inner harmony.
All the major religions, including Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, and Christianity, use it in their teachings to help a teen spiritual enlightenment. Meditation improve concentration, increases self-awareness, and enables us to combat stress by helping us to relax and cope. It even helps us to get on better with others. Many people who meditate improve their physical and mental well-being, and some have been able to conquer depression or addiction to drugs, caffeine, or alcohol.
Nowadays, meditation is no longer the preserve of mystics, yogis, and philosophers. It’s value has been recognized by many well-known individuals and groups including celebrities such as the Beatles, etc. You don’t have to be religious or have huge amounts of time to meditate you can do it no matter how old or busy you are. Meditation can help you manage stress, understand more about yourself, and increase your sense of well-being, among other things.
Many of us spend our time “sleepwalking”. We perform actions automatically and or unaware of what is happening around us. While we are sitting on a bus, for example, we may be thinking about the past. As a result, precious moments in the present or lost. We may not notice the scenes passing by or who is sitting next to us. Mindfulness helps us to reclaim each moment, to live in the present so that nothing passed us by.
When you are truly living in the present, everything takes on new meaning. Colors are brighter and more vivid, objects appear in striking detail, and you can hear every note in a piece of music. Flowers smell heavenly, and every sensation is intense. You can cultivate this awareness by doing the technique called “mindful meditation”.
Mindfulness meditation
Step 1: Pull your mind away from whatever it is, and concentrate on what you are doing at that moment. It doesn’t matter whether you were standing up, walking, or sitting down. Whatever you were doing walking home, eating, having a shower start doing it with all of your senses. Smell the fragrance of the air around you, taste every mouthful of food you’re eating, feel the sensation of the water against your skin she shower. Ask yourself what are you doing and what are you experiencing and feeling.
Step 2:
After a short while, you will probably find your mind trying to distract you. Notice the thoughts that arise, but don’t follow them. Let them go, and bring your mind gently back to the present moment. You will gradually find yourself moving into a peaceful alpha state. Alpha state helps us to recover feelings and to experience the world directly, in the present, before the sensation becomes “interrupted“ by the left side of the brain. Keep this meditation going for as long as you can.
