The Ultimate Human: Diet
So I’m starting a series called The Ultimate Human. In these 4–5 part story, I will explain to you what my 6-year experience of trying many things taught me about health.
Disclaimer:
This is not a professional advice. It is purely based on personal experience and research. The way I live my life may not be for everybody so please do your own research.
Which food is good for you
Most of the things that mainstream media and society tell us are healthy, or healthy enough, are lies. Whether they are lying to us unconsciously or not, it doesn’t matter. The tool it takes on our bodies, in the long run, is enormous. If you really love your body, start being more skeptical about what you put in it.
The food pyramid
This sick idea presented to us by media is nothing but a lie that is slowly killing us. I can’t even say to flip it upside down is the correct way to eat.
What is it that is killing us? Carbs. A lot of them. When you eat carbohydrates, they’re digested into glucose, which is the form of sugar cells use for energy. Any glucose you don’t need for energy is stored as glycogen or fat. The primary fuel your body runs on is therefore carbohydrate. Almost all health magazines say that carb intake for average person should be around 130g and your daily intake should be around 45–50% carbs.
About 6 years ago, I started being really active and wanted to be big and strong like Arnold, as I thought that’s what you should be aiming for. I started to eat a lot of carbs because I wanted to be big. The exercise was also very wrong but that’s for another part. I was eating at least 5–6 meals a day full of carbs and protein. I was tired very often, didn’t have clear thinking and slept till 1 pm, if possible. I wasn’t even thinking about eating fat because that’s the thing that makes you fat right? I was so wrong.
Turning point
So after I realized that high carb diet is not really a healthy way to live. I tried to count my macros and experiment with them. After 4 years of trying to balance my macros, I tried paleo diet. I felt better and I shortly realized why. I didn’t eat any dairy or grain. Suddenly without this poison in my body, I felt great. I was full of energy and I felt much healthier.
However, I still felt like something is not fully right. So I experimented a little more and started ketogenic diet. The ketogenic diet is supposed to be really strict and difficult according to many magazines but it’s fairly simple. All you need to do is eat enough protein( 1–1,5kg per body mass) and low carbs that is under 30 grams of NET carbs (Net Carbs = Total Carbohydrates — Fiber — Sugar Alcohols). The fat intake is purely based on your goals, whether you want to lean out or gain some mass.
The first few days you may feel bad because of the transition from carbs to fat. I was feeling great and as I was also implementing it with intermittent fasting, I was not hungry at all. There were however still some problems with the diet that I finally pinpointed.
Meat and greens.
If it breathes or if it's green, I eat it.
John Cena
This is the diet that I currently am trying to implement in my lifestyle.
It’s really based on the idea of low carb keto diet with some adjustments.
- No Dairy
- no alcohol (except red wine)
- shot of apple cider vinegar every morning
4.No raw or uncooked greens(no green juices and smoothies)
Raw and uncooked greens
You first need to cook a lot of vegetables and greens because they are not edible. Why? Because of antinutrients( chemicals that bacteria in your stomach can’t digest). Plants have these as the defense mechanism.
You can be vegan and still healthy but watch out for these.
Cholesterol
You will have a higher cholesterol in your blood. Don’t worry! You are okay. As a matter of fact, people with low cholesterol are more likely to die than people with high. The study that started this idea of high cholesterol is bad for you was done on rabbits which are herbivores and have no genetic connection with humans. The study is later proven false but the idea remained.
This is your baseline. After a month or so you try to experiment with more food. There will be no one diet for everybody you need to try and see what works. Again do your own research and experiment. Find what works for you.
