As an author in mindset shifts, I completely agree with this! It does set people up for failure, and they don't make lasting changing.
To make real changes is to set a goal, and then make small changes and shifts. If a plane is off 1% on their path, they will end up making a completely different flight and landing way off track. It only takes one degree of change to make shifts.
It does set people up for failure plus the pressure of having to fulfill the commitment don't help
