My Story: Chapter 11: A New Life

The day comes! After I get off work today, we are leaving for Colorado!! I am 22 years old now, and more excited than ever!!! A fresh start and quite an adventure! Our road trip up there was long due to having our dog with us! We had to make multiple stops! Once we arrived in Denver, Colorado, we took the money we saved and got a motel to stay in until we could get back on our feet. I got a job within a week at Denny's as an overnight waitress! That was an interesting job... I dealt with a lot of drunks, had fights break out in front of me, and at times, due to me being the only waitress working, I would get way too slammed!!! Living in the hotel was difficult being as it was way too small and expensive to keep up with... It was costing us $400 a week... Over time, we could not afford it anymore... We left the motel room, packed our things into our car, and tried to figure out what to do next... I kept working, but we were forced to live in our car... One week into living in the car with our dog, our car broke down, and we were stuck... It took us 5 days to get the car back up and running. we then ended up living in the car for 2.5 months... It was one of the hardest moments of my life. I saw the best in some people, and saw the worst in others. To make matters worse, it was in the middle of Colorado's winter... We were so cold most nights. Thank goodness we had each other, our dog, and the car to protect us. I don't know what I would have done if I had to do it alone. One day, in early March, we are driving around, and we get lost.. We are in the middle of nowhere... We go back the way we came, and stop at a trailer park to see if any are available to rent. That's when we meet Michael. My boyfriend asks him where the parks office is. Michael then walks up to the car, and introduces himself to me. He tells me about how he is moving out of his rental home (a duplex not far from there) and says he'll put in a word to the landlords for us if we can afford $600 a month!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE OUR LUCK!!!! He gets in our car, and shows us how to get there. He lets us inside, and lets us start staying there already. We talk to the Landlord, and we get approved!!!! Within a week, Michael moves out, and we now finally have our own place!!! To be continued in my next blog....
