How Business Savvy Has Changed With Social Media
Setting up shop and marketing your business has never been easy.
35-40 years ago, it involved literal "foot-work" - that is, going outside, and walking around.
Walking around to find the highest areas of foot traffic, and what times of day the traffic ebbed and flowed.
Walking around to find potential business competition, and find the areas of town where they were in highest and lowest density.
Walking around to speak to potential customers, and discover what their desires were in a new business.
Today, footwork has become more virtual, but it is still there.
Now, instead of walking around a physical town, we browse and search around social media platforms.
We must browse through the multitude of platforms, and take a look at the peak traffic time in our area.
We must search the platforms for our competition, and see where they reside in highest numbers.
And we must pose questions to our customers, either directly through our media or indirectly through a/b testing.
But deep down we are employing the same basic philosophies of business that have been employed for many generations.
Listening is the key to understanding - knowing your customers is the key to success.
