Room: Best Worst Movie In a History

In 2003 was released the worst film in the history of cinematography. It was so bad that during the cinema-shows most of the audience asked to return spent money after the first half hour of the film. It was called "Room" and was soon recognized as a “apex of mediocrity”. Its creator, Tommy Wiseau, who looks like a victim of brutal experiments, has so far been unbeatable. No one has ever even come close to his horrifying level of directing and acting. But this is just a small part of why “Room” is worth loving.

14 years later, in 2017, Seth Rogen and James Franco make a comedy about how the "Room" was making, so the world was once again swept by a wave of ugly and ridiculous love for this film. It's time to remember what we like Tommy Wiseau for, and his contribution to the cinema.

Phenomenally bad plot

The plot of "Room" is phenomenal in its deliberate stupidity and senselessness. No matter how much you laugh at the talentless scenarios full of holes and nonsense, Tommy Wiseau, in general, does not even seem to have a clue about what script is. He is like an alien who never saw a single movie in his life, but he read about them in the books and decided to shoot something of his own.

Formally, "Room" tells a story about the bank worker Johnny (played by Wiseau), who, it would seem, is doing all right: career, the bride Lisa and friends. However, his best friend, Mark, betrays Johnny and sleeps with Lisa. So, as a result, the main character is very upset, calls Mark a chicken and shoots himself in the mouth with a pistol eventually.

How can one manage to stretch this story for an hour and a half timeframe? It is simply filled with a bunch of trash storylines, in which there is no point, fabula or any narrative. Here Lisa's mother says she has breast cancer. There Johnny's friends go into his house while he's gone and have sex there. Here are the heroes standing in the tailcoats on the street and throwing the ball to each other. There Johnny goes to the flower shop merely to say "Hi, doggy!" to the dog. In this sense, Wiseau just takes and deconstructs the plot to hypnotize and hurt us. "Room" is not a film, but a psychotronic weapon.

An incredibly bad acting

Actors here act so badly that it causes the viewer an awkward feeling of painful shame along the whole film- school amateur actors look much more convincing and mature. Absolutely all the actors (except the dog) act with terrible force. Everyone here has a stone face expressions- having lost five cents, you would express more feelings than Lisa, who has found out that her mother has cancer.

Unlike the rest, Tommy Wiseau looks like a paragon of emotions. Most of the time he looks even more “drowsy” than the others, but sometimes “tranquilizers” loosen him and then he makes faces and yells in such a voice that it is impossible to forget. 

Classic Quotes

If the plot of "Rooms" was written by a man who seemed not to have watched a single film, then dialogues wrote someone who had never communicated with any living creatures before. Dialogues of this movie became memes, they scattered here and there and phrases from there many of us still use:

- Hi Mark!

- Anyway, how is your sex life?

-You're tearing me apart, Lisa!

-Do not touch me, mazafaka, get out!

You betrayed me, you are not good! You're just a chicken. Chip-chip-chip-chip!

But among others, there is a quote that is so beautiful in itself that it deserves to be a separate reason to love the "Room". Johnny goes to the roof and, and, as if reflecting on his problems, says "I did not beat her. It is not true. It's bullshit! I did not beat her. I did not beat! ", And then, as if nothing had happened, he adds:" Oh, hello, Mark! ". This moment became the symbol of the whole film and the first that pops up in memory when you remember the "Room" by Tommy Wiseau.

The popularity of the "Room" is in every sense a modern phenomenon

During the first show, "Room" collected merely 1800 dollars. Horrified people escaped from the sessions, throwing popcorn and telling everyone that they have encountered the worst film in the history. If it were different times, the film would simply be forgotten. But at the beginning of the XXI century it caused a craze (albeit not immediately). At some point, the audience realized that the movie could be so bad that it's fu##ing great! After all, a truly meaningless and colossally mediocre movies are released even less often than truly genious.

Later, the bloggers joined the rush, which unleashed the "Room" in a way that even all the six million dollars invested in its production couldn’t. In internet, Tommy and his film have become heroes of an endless number of jokes and parody videos. It is thanks to the Internet that "Room" has become a real phenomenon of pop culture. Huge popularity acquired the book “Disaster Artist”, in which author describes troubled development and odd experiences during creation of the film. The next film, which is shot by the brothers Franco and Seth Rogen, will immortalise the "Room" even more.
