Poetic Retro Film Review: The Prestige (2006)
In the realm of cinema's grand art,
Christopher Nolan holds a shining start,
His films, a testament to his skill,
A master of the summer blockbuster's thrill.
With Spielberg's formula, he does take,
A conventional blockbuster, then a unique break,
From the ordinary to the extraordinary,
A journey that's captivating and daring to carry.
The Prestige, a film of great acclaim,
A period thriller, with magic as its aim,
Based on Priest's novel, with a plot so tight,
Three acts unfold, like a magician's delight.
Borden and Angier, two magicians at heart,
Their rivalry and animosity, a work of art,
Their journey to fame, a path so steep,
With tragedy and betrayal, their friendship does seep.
Nolan's talent, a narrative so complex,
Yet comprehensible, with a conclusion that's exact,
The illusion he weaves, a tapestry so grand,
The audience, in awe, their minds expand.
A cast of brilliance, with Bale and Caine,
Hugh Jackman, a role that's quite divine,
David Bowie, in a few short scenes,
Leaves a lasting impression, like a dream.
Some flaws, there may be, like handheld camera's sway,
But even so, the film's magic stays,
A testament to Nolan's art,
A film worth watching, from the very start.
