In addition to Turkey, the attacks claimed by ISIS also received strong criticism from many countries and international organizations, including NATO.

The attacks themselves underline growing concerns about security ahead of legislative elections scheduled for next October 20. The holding of this election is seen as a trial for presidential elections next year.

The last major attack on Kabul was on 21 March. At that time an ISIS suicide bomber blew himself up in a crowd of people celebrating the Persian New Year holiday and killed at least 33 people.
