Harry and Meghan 's visit to Asni in Morocco
The town of Asni, located in Atlas Mountains in Morocco, has witnessed a royal visit of Harry and Meghan on 24th February, 2019 to show their sincere commitment to girls' education and celebrate a British entrepreneur supporting local education in Morocco .
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the town of Asni to learn about the Moroccan NGO Education For All (EFA) (founded by British entrepreneur Michael McHugo). EFA aims at giving girls from rural Morocco the chance of a secondary Education because they believe that everyone has the right to an education, and "if you educate a girl, you educate the next generation as well".
The organization builds boarding houses for girls aged 12 to 19 to ensure that youngsters from rural communities in the mountains region are able to access secondary education.
Meghan, 37, was casually dressed in a £394 Alice + Olivia blazer and skinny jeans teamed with £90 Birdies slippers and a £67 'blanket scarf' from Wilfred.
Waiting for the couple's arrival, school girls lined up in the street wearing traditional clothes. And Meghan, who is seven-months pregnant, was offered a bunch of flowers by 16-year-old student, called Hasna.
During the visit, Meghan took part in Hanna ceremony to celebrate her pregnancy. It's tradition for pregnant women in Morocco to have a henna tattoo. It is used for major celebrations like getting married or having a baby.
Meghan sat down with one of girls' boarding houses, who painted three delicate flowers on her left hand.
Henna is traditionally used for special occasions in Morocco, India, Pakistan, North Africa and the Middle East - particularly during pregnancy. It is often applied during the third trimester of pregnancy, as it is believed to protect both mother and child from evil spirits.
Meghan chatted to schoolgirls in their dormitory rooms.
At the end, Harry and Meghan's commitment to girls' education will certainly encourage many girls for schooling.
