GPL'd Soda

Here in Oslo, you can find this locally produced cola called "Tøyen Cola." Given their consumer contact, it is most likely made in the Tøyen neighborhood in Oslo. You can see at restaurant doors where there are stickers advertising it saying "Spør etter Tøyen Cola" (basically, ask for it.)

It says on it "etter åpen resept" ... "after an open recipe". I didn't actually notice this until I had the bottle and saw this:

Well, this open recipe is actually GPLd (GNU General Public License) :D If you use open source software, you know about the GPL. Basically, there are a number restrictions in the GPL, but enforces that everyone who releases changes to the public also release their changes under the GPL. Also, one must provide the full source code when releasing a product with the GPLd code. Did they on the bottle? Well of course:

So, according to the bottle, the recipe is also on cube-cola.org (which is in English ;))

The taste of this was interesting. It was, of course a cola taste, with a taste of citrus and nuts the smooths out the citrus tanginess (well, it does say it in the recipe). It is not like Coke or Pepsi. It was a little more expensive than average cola here, but that is to be expected.

Regardless, this was fun to see. I bought another bottle today. I am going to crack it open after this post :)
