A few photos from today's walk: North Head Walk in Manly, Sydney
Hey there! I decided to share a few photos from my today's outing. It's my first Steemit post (after a couple of Steepshot photos), so please be gentle with me 😄
Sydney public transport system is constructed in such way that it really pays off to travel on Sundays: all Opal fares (Sydney smartcard) are capped at $2.60, which means you can travel all you want on most of NSW public transport (including intercity trains) and you will pay half the price of a coffee cup. And since the weather was nice, me and my girlfriend decided to go to the North Head Walk in Manly in northern Sydney.
To those not acquainted with Sydney geography, here's Manly and how to get there from city centre:
It takes around 40 minutes to get from Circular Quay to Manly using public transport. There's also a faster boat, on which it takes only 15 minutes to get to Manly, but you can't use Opal card with it - meaning you have to pay full price $8.70 per person one way. (That's almost $35 for return tickets for 2 people!)
Alright, enough text, let's go with the photos - walk starts at the Manly beach:
It continues around the coast, together with a small swimming pool just next to the sea:
There are also a few small and cute monuments alongside:
The road leads to Shelly Beach, which is much smaller than Manly - and also has wild turkeys roaming around!
Afterwards there's a bit of climbing included, up to the small lookout with breathtaking views (yellow star on the map below):
The path continues through a couple of historic gun points (unfortunately we didn't take any photos there) and through the Barracks Precinct. It was a great walk, with only a few people passing us by - it really felt like we were on some secluded island, rather than in the biggest city in Australia. Photo taken along that walk, with Sydney in the background:
Our goal was the North Head, also known as the Fairfax Lookout (green star) - and it was totally worth it, even though our legs were hurting by that time:
Even though there were some unknown forces hindering our quest for photos, barring us from a few places 😉
On our way back, our ferry had to wait for a couple of minutes because of a giant ship visiting Circular Quay - thanks to that, I was able to take another few great photos, as our ferry waited under the Harbor Bridge:
To recap, here's the path that we walked (with green being start and red being end).
Thanks for reading! If you're looking for a pleasant scenic walk in Sydney that is not very demanding and takes a just couple of hours to completed, then definitely check out the North Head Walk 😃
Great first post! Sorry I didn't find it when posted, but now that you're using worldmap you'll be easier to find! Spent almost a week in Manly when we started our 2 month roadtrip - you can find all my Oz posts on worldmap. Thanks for showing me a few spots we missed on our visit.
I love Sydney, upvoted and I'll follow you
Thanks!
