The End of the One-Eyed Eddie
Many times brought to trial, Eddie Broz, nicknamed "One-eyed", was detained at night for another violation of order. The next morning, in the same city, in the hallway of his own apartment, the corpse of the widow Bremer was discovered. A forensic examination found that death resulted from strangulation. Inspector Warnicke summoned one-eyed Eddie for questioning, who stated that he had actually visited some of his “clients” the night before. When the inspector suddenly asked if the widow Bremer was one of his “clients”, Eddie stated that the death of the widow had nothing to do with him. Then the inspector asked him how he knew about the death of the widow. Eddie replied that, walking past her house, he looked into the keyhole and saw her lying on the floor. He called, but no one answered. After inspecting the widow’s apartment, the inspector ordered Eddie to be arrested on suspicion of murder.
