Switzerland: Jaafari meets Russian envoy as new round of intra-Syria talks kick off

BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:05 P.M.) – Russian Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Alexei Borodavkin met with Syrian Ambassador to the UN Bashar Jaafari, at the ‘Pink Villa’ of Russia’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, Monday, as the seventh round of intra-Syria talks kicked off.

Earlier in the day, the Syrian government delegation, led by Jaafari, met with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura. Jaafari noted that de Mistura “focused on a priority for him, one issue, which is the working of the experts on the second basket,” which he said was Syria’s constitutional reform.

The talks come following the first face-to-face meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 Summit, in which a ceasefire agreement in southwest Syria was reached.
