Jeff Bezos, King of electronic commerce (Amazon)
Amazonis a creation of some of the best entrepreneurs we've seen in recent years Jeff Bezos. Since childhood Bezos had competed to be the best of its kind, a feature that would accompany him to this day. In 1982 he went to Princeton University with the intention of studying physics, but in the second year he changed his mind and opted for electronic engineering. At that time, only one in ten households had a personal computer and the internet had not yet poked its head. When the university was over he found his first job in New York City in an international financial company called "Fitel" and in 1990 he entered In "DE Show & Co" an investment company, this company was able to see his talent and ambition and in a short time he had already promoted him to vice president, shortly after contracting an assistant named Mackenzie which fell in love and ended up marrying in 1993 At the age of 29 Bezos had everything a lovely wife and a magnificent job, but the great genius always dreamed of exploring new frontiers.
He noticed the great growth that the Internet was having 2,300% every year, something like that growing at that speed had to mean something and he thought he had to do something about it. At that time, the internet was only used to send e-mail or check data but something told Bezos that it was a matter of time before people used it to buy items. Nowadays it is easy to think of the internet as a source of commerce, but at that time it was unthinkable for Bezos for an opportunity was clear, but as he was going to give up a stable and well paid job like he had, many would give anything to get to where he was right now. To make this decision I made an exercise called "Minimization of Repentance" which consisted in projecting at 80 years of age and looking back trying to reduce the number of regrets, the question was asked If I look back I will regret having tried to create something in the middle space and have failed? The answer was no and as a consequence he decided to embark on the adventure. Now that it was decided, he needed a star product to start with, even though his mission was to sell all kinds of products, he needed to penetrate the market first. I research about the products that used to be bought more by mail and among them chose the books because they are widely catalogable and easy to send.
The first investors of the business were his parents who invested $ 300,000, Bezos told several interviews that his father did not know what the Internet was showing that they were not investing in the business but in the ability of his son to execute the idea. In 1994 Bezos and his wife moved to the city of Seatle, a place where they knew they could find professionals in the sector. Along the way he was writing his ambitious business plan and among other things he also called his lawyer to baptize his new company the name he had chosen was "CADABRA" to this the lawyer replied I want to put his company "CADAVER" Bezos said yes There is a possibility that people get confused as it just happened with you, it is no longer a valid option. Days later reviewing a dictionary crossed with the word "Amazon" the largest river in the world and how he wanted to set up the largest book store in the world baptized his new company "Amazon". After working hard in his new garage at home, Bezos and his team managed to launch the first version of their website in 1995. One of the priorities of this first test was to facilitate the purchase, Bezos invited his family and friends to use the page and all were amazed with how intuitive it became months later on July 16, 1995 Amazon.com opens its doors to the public and with only word of mouth advertising began to ask for orders from around the world yet not all they were triumphs. In 2001 comes the crisis of the business bubble on the Internet and its actions down to $ 6 reaching more than $ 2 billion, but unlike other companies of the time that were based simply on illusions and unreachable projections Amazon had a real business that supported the cash flow of the company, that and a well executed strategy by Bezos managed to overcome the company after the severe financial blow.
Amazon had an incredible competitive advantage, a strategy that would be replicated in the future with other markets, even though profits are falling. One of the characteristics that distinguish Bezos from other executive directors is their ability to think long term, for years the company has not given benefits since its policy is to reinvest in the infrastructure this is responsible for making them stay ahead of their competitors sacrificing the short term for the long term as you know Amazon has not stopped innovating by introducing including revolutionary products such as the Kindle, Amazon Web Services, Amazon Cloud and a host of advances that have turned Amazon into something more than a simple online store.
