A Mother's Joy: Celebrating Her Children`s Moment On Recognition Day

As a mother, I feel so happy with every achievement my kids make. Big or small, it brought tears to my eyes at whatever my two sons receive, either from school or our local church. That feeling that you are on cloud 9, seeing them on stage, receiving awards every year as a prize for their hardship and sacrifice. For them to be one of the Special class students is already an achievement since students in that section are carefully chosen by the school admin. Their efforts don't stop there, they continue to prove that they are qualified in that section, and they even stay up late at night to study and do their homework. Truly, the awards that they receive are a result of their hard work. When I heard their name being called and saw them smile at me, my heart overflowed with pride, it was a ghostbump!

My firstborn, Mori, is now in the 9th grade of junior high school. He received recognition with honors. This year, I’ve truly witnessed my child’s hard work and exhaustion. Staying up late and rising early has become part of the daily routine. Almost every subject comes with take-home tasks, but it’s the research subject that takes up most of the time. I can’t help but feel concerned—my child’s face is breaking out with pimples due to sleeping late almost every night.
One of his hardest research projects was about water purification. One of the most challenging research projects he tackled was on water purification. I helped him gather the necessary materials, like litmus paper and a pH tester. His experiment demonstrated how regular water could be made safe for drinking through a simple purification method. I saw firsthand how he confidently defended his study, even as his Science teacher thoroughly questioned every step. On recognition day, my husband and I proudly stood by his side, celebrating his achievement. I made sure to snap every moment as they stood proudly on stage.
My youngest, just like his older brother, also received a 'With Honors' award. He's currently in third grade and has been consistently recognized at the end of the school year. Also, aside from his academic awards, he won the best in costume award and was the grand winner of the Mr. UNO (United Nations Organization) national costume competition. His costume, proudly made by my husband, stood out among all the participants. I honestly didn’t expect him to win, but he carried himself with such confidence, proudly wearing the Philippines's sash until the very end. Some teachers even called him 'the small but mighty contestant.' Of course, I took plenty of photos, capturing his big smile and how he performed on stage. One day, when he's older, I’ll show them to him as a reminder of how proud we were."

Those early morning wake-ups and late-night homework sessions help shape our children’s character as they grow and chase their dreams. Every step they take forward counts. To my fellow parents, who also sacrificed a lot, I celebrate with you. Whatever recognition your children have received, big or small, it’s worth honoring. And to all the dedicated teachers like myself, thank you for your patience, guidance, and unwavering commitment to our students’ growth. Now, we’ve reached the finish line of another school year. Together, let’s look forward to more years of progress, applause, and unforgettable moments!
