Gayo tradition
Traditional Gayo Horse Racing is a cultural event that is held as a party for the Gayo people in uniting various layers of society in the highlands, namely Central Aceh, Bener Meriah, and Gayo Lues.
The activity of the traditional culture of the #etnisgayo was held long before the Dutch colonialists entered the land of Gayo and the independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
Long before the Gayo community held a horse race to welcome or celebrate the rice harvest, which was generally between August and September.
That said, the activity was first carried out on the edge of Lut Tawar Lake in the Pante Menye area, Bintang District, Central Aceh.
The uniqueness of the Gayo horse race itself is carried out by small jockeys without having special facilities, such as equipment for jockeys, horses and race tracks.
